My self-summary
I am: a consumer of hummus, an optimistic cynic, a nerd and damn proud of it, a reader of the news, a seeker of meta-insights, and probably some other things that I’ve forgotten.

I've been in DC for 1.5 years, and previously lived in NY for 5 years. I grew up in Australia.

I support the following: food, banter, learning, friendliness.
What I’m doing with my life
I have a PhD in economics and a job that I really like ... but, I try not to take it all too seriously; in the bigger scheme of things, many of the things we care about and fret over really aren't that important. I think it's generally a good idea to never forget the infinite, all while keeping one's feet firmly on the ground -- whatever the hell that means!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
These lists might be a bit dated, but still ...

Movies: Fargo, Kill Bill, Dr Strangelove, The Big Lebowski.

Books: 1984, LOTR, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Stranger, Lolita, Slaughterhouse Five.

Broadway: The Book of Mormon, Waiting for Godot, Fiddler on the Roof.

Music: Pink Floyd, Gogol Bordello, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Black Keys, Beck, Gorillas, Amy Winehouse, Shpongle, Bob Marley, Gary Clark Jr.

Food: Indian, Mexican, Grilled Octopus, Sandwiches.
Six things I could never do without
Spicy food

My family
The outdoors
Coffee
... five is enough, six is too arbitrary of a number
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Implicit assumptions. What should I eat for lunch? Politics, economics and philosophy. The tyranny of formative experiences. Tautologies. Unknown unknowns. Non sequiturs. The news. Beliefs. People. Isn't procrastinating just an investment in my future productivity? Which details are not worth ignoring? Which details are worth ignoring? We're all just computer programs. And, on occasion, ice cream, obviously.
On a typical Friday night I am
You know, just some ritualistic animal sacrifice and ecstatic worship of various pagan divinities
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think that the Whole Foods hummus is way better than the Trader Joe's hummus.
