My self-summary
I am a time-traveller from the year 2046. Girls in the future are pretty dull, so I've come to see what these famed "millenials" were like. If I like them, I might even stay!

You might think that having a relationship in the past would cause a time travel paradox of some sort. You would be wrong. Send me an email to find out why!
What I’m doing with my life
I used to be an English teacher (English as a second language), used to be a full-time student and PhD applicant, and used to think that I wanted to teach at a Japanese university.

It turns out that I wanted none of that, so now I am studying to be a librarian. This is proving to be a somewhat-less-than-easy industry to get work in, but I like research and learning new things, and working as a research librarian would be a job that facilitates these interests. So, I'm hanging in there!

Otherwise, I like running long distances, reading, and playing the African drums. Separately, not all together. I'm not that dextrous.
I’m really good at
I'm good at reading and writing, as evidenced by people telling me so. And I'm moderately good at a variety of musical instruments.

Apparently I'm also great with kids. I was told this after I took an English class that involved a mentally-disturbed 5-year-old throwing plastic fruit at my head for half an hour. And didn't explode into rage.

I'm good at useless trivia. Comes from watching QI too much. Did you know that 'facetious' is one of the few words in English that has all 5 vowels in the correct order?

Did you know that New Zealand was the first country to give women the vote?

Did you know that the tallest known mountain is on Mars?
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I'm quiet, and that I like quietness. I'm very much an introvert.

Apparently I look like "the blind kid from Dumb & Dumber". Although the last time I heard that was many years ago, so perhaps I look like someone else now.

I also have a strange accent, or so people have told me. At times I have been mistaken for American, Canadian, New Zealander, South African, and English. I don't know why, although I guess my Australian accent is fairly neutral.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books (a selection):
Currently rereading Wheel of Time (I hate much about it, but want to know how it ends)
Song of Ice and Fire
Prince/King of Thorns
Terry Pratchett
Jasper Fforde
Tad Williams
World War Z
Lots and lots of non-fiction books, mostly about politics and/or film, but some biographies too

#1 is Dark City (if you know of this movie, give yourself a pat on the back)
Then: Blade Runner, Fargo, Hitchcock films, Apocalypse Now, Sergio Leone films, Akira Kurosawa (especially Rashomon, Throne of Blood, Ikiru), Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Beat Takeshi, Shinji Aoyama, Wong Kar-wai, Park Chan-wook, Stanley Kubrick,
honestly-there-are-just-so-bloody-many-things-I-like-that-I couldn't-even-begin-to-make-a-list-here

TV shows I currently like:
Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Borgen, Hannibal, VIKINGS, Spartacus, Justified, Community, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Revenge, Seinfeld, True Detective, The Americans, Archer, House of Cards, Sleepy Hollow

If you like any of those, I'd love to chat about them!

Music: Post-rock (eg. Mogwai, Sigur Ros), shoegaze, reggae, jazz, classical, punk, post-punk, post-post-punk, The Doors, Bowie, trance, and noise rock. That last one is exactly what it sounds like.

I also listen to a lot of PBS, so there's a bunch of genres that I'm developing an interest in.

Food: I like Japanese food the most, but can deal with just about anything. Except licorice. Licorice disgusts me.

I also play video games. Not obsessively, but it is most definitely a hobby. The games I like are mostly RPGs, strategy, and strategy RPGs. I could rattle off a list, but that would take a long time. So here's 3: Planescape: Torment, Fire Emblem, Deus Ex.
Six things I could never do without
My Kindle
Funny cat pictures
Being able to resist making a crack about how I'm putting more than six things up here.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The perfect murder
Stupid trivia
On a typical Friday night I am
out with friends or workmates. Not at a club, usually. We generally prefer bars or pubs where we can sit and shoot the breeze for an hour or two.

If I'm really tired, though, I am not adverse to having a quiet one at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When I was in preschool, for some reason I tied my shoelaces together during recess and couldn't walk back to the classroom. I then got in trouble for trying to pin the blame on a classmate.

...I wasn't the brightest kid...
You should message me if
If you read up to here and haven't been turned off yet!

If you have strong opinions about things and enjoy talking about those opinions. And don't mind if I disagree with one or two of them.

If you don't mind that I'm introverted. This does *not* mean that I shun all human contact - just that I like my quiet, private time, and find being around large groups of people to be tiring.

If you aren't going to just wait for me to contact you. I know it goes against tradition for girls to be contacting guys first, but I think it's only fair that we share the responsibility. That's how we roll in 2046.

If you like coffee, and want to chat over coffee.

If you know the way to Shell Beach.
