My self-summary
UPDATE: I'm now currently seeing someone. I'm still down for making new friends!

Hey there, I'm Mike. I'm a resident surgeon in New Jersey. I'm an easy-going, fun-loving guy who's in constant search of new ways to feel alive.

I love music. I love listening to it, playing it, writing it, and going to concerts. Music can transport me to the most amazing places. I'm into all genres (except for country) from jazz to electronic, rock, indie, soul, and even the really, really weird. I studied music in college and still play guitar regularly. I try to take advantage of my short fits of creativity to occasionally write and record.

I'm a pretty big geek. If it's about science, I'm almost immediately engrossed. I've had some great memories watching shows about supernovae and black holes late at night on the Discovery channel. Video games, while taking up less of my life recently, are still a part of my geekiness. They're usually ones with interesting storylines or atmosphere, e.g. Mass Effect.

Although I haven't been able to do so very much recently, I enjoy traveling. The new experiences, the new people, even the just the feel of a foreign world are all fascinating.
What I’m doing with my life
I am currently in my surgical residency in New Jersey. Outside of my training, I'm focusing on enjoying life as much as I can.
I’m really good at
Making people feel at ease when they're around me. I've been told that I'm a good stabilizing force in my circle of friends.
The first things people usually notice about me
My "super-serious face". Apparently I always look like I'm very serious, but that impression usually goes away once people start talking to me and see that I'm quite friendly.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Minus the Bear, Burial, Flying Lotus, M83, Radiohead, Battles, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, George Benson (his guitar stuff), Steely Dan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Everything but the Girl, Pearl Jam, Erykah Badu, Esthero, Nujabes, The Knife, Friendly Fires, Silversun Pickups, Japandroids, We Are Scientists, Toe, Thievery Corporation...

Movies: The Lives of Others, The Emperor's New Groove, Once, Bourne Identity movies, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Eternal Sunshine, Lost in Translation

Shows: The Daily Show, Dexter, Battlestar Galactica, The Wire, Parks and Rec, Cowboy Bebop

Books: Anything sci-fi. I have particularly fond memories of Ender's Game, Hyperion and the Otherland books. Along more traditional lines, Hemingway is awesome.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
If I were a superhero, what my super power would be. Running away and becoming a professional musician. Practicing medicine across the world once I finally get out of residency.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually out with friends. Sometimes I stay in and just play guitar or lie back and listen to music.
You should message me if
You're down to earth but passionate about the things in your life.
