My self-summary
Hmm, don't even know where to begin....but eventually I WILL write something here!
What I’m doing with my life
I moved back to the US a little over seven years ago to take up a job at UNC-Chapel Hill. I relocated to Cincinnati, where I am a professor at a nearby university. I am still wondering if I should have stayed put on the other side of the Atlantic. Don't get me wrong, there are many things that I love about the US....I've just lived abroad often and miss Europe...particularly in election years! Good thing I get to go back often.

I love to teach and research political questions. This coming semester, I am working with a group of youngsters exploring comparative politics and trying to teach them how to write. I am also teaching a course on EU politics. (Try to contain your enthusiasm!)

I LOVE to travel and, thankfully, get to do a lot of it for my job and my research. My most recent new adventures were hiking in Corsica, exploring the wine country in Portugal and soaking in the sun in Culebra...all beautiful! Next trips are to The Netherlands and France, where I lived for several years. Looking forward to going back and combining work with catching up with old friends.

One of my goals for 2016 is to explore my new home city of far, it's been all work and no play!
I’m really good at
going with the flow (especially when name the travel mishap and I assure you it's happened to me)
debating/arguing (depending on how you view it)
genuinely seeing the best in others
The first things people usually notice about me
usually my smile, my propensity to laugh, and my honesty (to hell with the consequences!)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: To Kill a Mockingbird; As I Lay Dying; The Once and Future King; All Quiet on the Western Front; One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest; Bill Bryson and David Sedaris also really make me laugh

movies: Miss Congeniality (don't judge!); The Big Lebowski; Platoon; Wag the Dog; Girl, Interrupted; Goodbye Lenin; The Lives of Others; Almost Famous; Stand by Me; Bull Durham; The Natural; Dead Poets Society

shows: Battlestar Galactica; West Wing; Ally McBeal; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Weeds; Friday Night Lights; MI-5; How I Met Your Mother; Homeland; Gilmore Girls; Veronica Mars; The Daily Show

music: Bob Dylan; Tori Amos; Jonny Cash; The Rolling Stones; Ben Folds; Gillian Welsh; Madonna; James Taylor; Lucinda Williams; Willy Nelson; Janis Ian...I guess I like a little of everything but as my list reveals, my favs are in the folk genre....

....and on a related note, i'm an NPR junkie!

food: anything goes....the spicier, the better!
Six things I could never do without
my passport
the outdoors
my sister
a stiff drink
a good laugh
I spend a lot of time thinking about
WAY too much.....hence my chronic insomnia.
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out at a pub, bar, etc.
heading out of town
sadly, working!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Ask in person and i'll probably tell you.
You should message me if
If any of the above strikes your fancy.
