(I'd like to take this time to preach: conversate is NOT a word, despite Beyonce's ubiquitous usage).
So I'm originally from NorCal and came down to SD to get away from everything (mainly the parents). Almost a decade later, I landed an awesome job at a high school teaching kids Spanish and Government and now find myself a permanent resident of San Diego; I finally changed my voter registration to SD, so this shit got real.
I graduated from SDSU in three years. I got my BA in Political Science for the sole reason that I liked politics. Originally wanting go to work in campaigns, after I realized how dirty they were, I changed plans. I enrolled at SDSU again and got a credential in Social Science. As no one hires history teachers, I also added Spanish to my credential. And while I did speak it growing up (mom's side is from Guatemala), my Spanish is far from perfect. But now I'm a very marketable teacher. And soon to be principal. Maybe. I'm at USD finishing up my admin credential. Doing that whole night class thing while working full time. I thought about getting a Masters in Leadership Studies, but really, wtf does that even mean? Plus even though USD is a beautiful campus, having Jesus stare at you in every classroom is just offputting for me coming from public school.
I'm happily living in the real adult world, and have happily had my 'shit together' for years: car, my own place, and a job and an education. My next goals are learning how to become a better teacher and have a relationship (I realize the latter one is corny, but they've actually done studies that show similar brain responses for people in love and for people under the influence of heroin...there is a tangible reason for wanting it!...and I'm not about the drugs :p).
Random things about me: I'm extremely easy going, and I know a lot of random facts. Like did you know salicylic acid, a common
acne-fighting ingredient, is aspirin? Or that plants can have
fevers? You'll notice in everyday conversation that I pull from my
ADD memory bank. I love to learn and I'm a sponge for information. I can spend hours reading and clicking hyperlinks on Wikipedia. I also love asking questions and learning about different people and their perspectives.
And yes, I realize the username is ridiculous. But I've had it since seventh grade and I find it memorable. It also seems fitting to my dietary choices. And I'm too lazy to come up with new usernames.
I'm a vegetarian. I do eat dairy products and eggs. I'm not
hard core healthy (I have a fetish for french fries), but I just
came to the realization that killing animals for meat wasn't nice
in 6th grade during the family Thanksgiving get-together. That went over REALLY well.
I am pretty far left politically. But I love having conversations
with all ends of the political spectrum. I hate Democrats and
Republicans equally. Lately I've actually been terribly
disenchanted with politics and have been reading socialist theory.
I keep up with the news and current events. I read a lot online and listen to NPR in the car. But the world just keeps sucking more and more, it seems. Imperialist wars, no money for working people, budget cuts, foreclosures...sad stuff.
I have recently been trying to expand my social circle.
Between working 40 hours and napping (I have a problem, we can talk about this later), I have decided to make more of an effort to meet new people. And while dating would be nice, I am very open to making new friends and people to hang out with. So say hi, even if you have no intention of ever seeing me naked.
I have come to the conclusion that the only two places to meet
other gay guys is online or at a club. Not so into the latter. So
let's try this e-dating thing. At least it's free, right?
I bounce around from topic to topic in a conversation. I'd imagine this makes me interesting or hard to understand.
I ask a lot of questions and am pretty good at getting people to talk about themselves.
I am pretty high-energy and like to smile.
My eyes because they're some weird green blue mix. A very 'urban' student once said they were the color of money.
My teeth. When I worked retail, people would mention them. I guess $2,000 in orthodontia paid off. Thanks mom.
My most recent: Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" Legitimate laugh-out-louds.
Nickel and Dimed, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Poppy (yes, the book about a mouse you read in 5th grade).
TV shows: Walking Dead, Casual, Shameless, Scandal, Newsroom, Veep, Revenge, Ally McBeal, True Blood (basically crack in visual form), Grey's Anatomy, Nurse Jackie, V,.
Movies: V for Vendetta I think is one of the best movies I've ever seen. So is Pan's Labyrinth. Love Actually is a good romantic comedy. I love documentaries. PBS' Frontline makes some great ones. I prefer to watch movies with people because I often don't understand what's happening half the time.
Music: Think Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore...yea. It's bad. It's gay. Ask to see my Spotify Playlist. I have one playlist for me and another for when I'm around other people so they don't kill me.
Food: Well I'm a vegetarian, so I could probably eat a veggie burger and fries daily. I crave fries a lot. I also frequent frozen yogurt places. Do not equate health and vegetarianism. Pizza is also a favorite. I used to drink Dr. Pepper daily. I have since cut back to once a week. My metabolism is not what it used to be!
my cell phone
GPS (I get lost so often...sometimes I can't find my car after I parked it...)
Or if you think we'd have fun galavanting around San Diego.
Or if you're looking at my photos and thinking happy thoughts.
And if you know the difference between your and you're. (i.e. if you message me "your cute" I am under a moral obligation not to respond).
