My self-summary
I really like otters. This tumblr encapsulates about 90% of my thoughts and beliefs: I also like eating meat (not from otters) and drinking delicious beers. I would describe myself as quietly effusive. I'm a good singer and a really terrible dancer. Most of my joy comes from music and I may get too excited about it, but that's because music is what makes life worth living. I own many books. I am exceedingly nerdy. I care about children's rights (among other good things). I believe the worst thing you can do is treat someone as if they have lost or forfeited their humanity. I was an English major in college and I don't give a shit about improper grammar.

Do yourself a favor and take 4 and a half minutes to listen to this:
What I’m doing with my life
I went to college and law school in DC, and now I'm in my first big girl lawyer job in St. Cloud. It's sort of a temporary job, and I'm hoping to get a permanent job, ideally working for a Legal Aid organization, in the near future. I'm looking in the Twin Cities, but also open to other places, so I'm not necessarily looking for a super long term relationship right now. I'm a bit of a nomad...
I’m really good at
Singing. Stockpiling useless knowledge. Watching many episodes of television shows in succession. Cards Against Humanity. Calling people on their bullshit. It's a good thing that these skills are relevant to my chosen profession.
The first things people usually notice about me
If you happen to be staring directly at my left ankle, it's probably the five inch scar from when I became part machine. If I'm listening to good music, it may be that I have an idiotic grin on my face and am tapping my thigh perhaps too noticeably while walking alone down the street. Also, I was recently told that I sort of curtsy sometimes when I'm being awkward..which you may be able to tell is rather frequently. I don't really know what that (the weird curtsy thing) is about - maybe I'm displaced in time.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Now that I'm done with school (at least for now), I'm finally getting back into reading for pleasure! I'm currently working on American Gods and getting into Murakami. I also recently read the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. Some perennial favorites: Harry Potter, Tolkien, the Phantom Tollbooth, the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Fun Home, Infinite Jest. I'm terrible at choosing favorites.

Movies: When I'm busy I tend to watch thoughtless comedy/action movies (escapism, I suppose). I also appreciate a really good period drama. In the past year or so, I've really liked the Avengers, Bridesmaids, Django Unchained, and the Dark Knight Rises. Other favorites - Amadeus, Real Genius, the Hangover, Tommy Boy, the Usual Suspects.

TV Shows: Buffy. Anything Bryan Fuller - Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me. Hannibal is amazing. Sherlock, Fringe, Parks and Rec, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, various British comedies (Peep Show, IT Crowd, Snuff Box, etc.), Arrested Development. I marathoned Battlestar Galactica last summer after I had ankle surgery, but I should probably watch it again since I was on percocet...

Music: My taste is kind of eclectic and changeable. Also, I don't really believe in genres. The only generalization I'm willing to make is that I usually like artists who are better live than recorded. I saw St. Vincent this fall and it was incredible. But as a sample of what I've been listening to recently: Chris Thile, Mountain Goats, Violent Femmes, Elvis Costello, Nick Drake, the Magnetic Fields, the Kinks, Mozart, Andrew Bird, Laura Marling (please listen to her new album right this instant!), Jimi Hendrix, Manu Chao, the Velvet Underground, Neil Young, Johnny Flynn, Nirvana, Villagers, tenThing (Norwegian all-female 10 piece brass ensemble), the Talking Heads, Patrick Watson. So sort of folk-y, with a mix of other good things.
The six things I could never do without
the choral public domain library. lactose tolerance. comfy dresses that make you look fashionable when you really just threw on one article of clothing and ran out the door. that's pretty much it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
learning to play the accordion, taking all my student loan money, and moving to an obscure European city to be a street performer.
On a typical Friday night I am
It used to be studying but I am done with way too much school, so now hopefully it will be seeing live music, drinking beer, playing games, and generally being a young human.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm an embarrassingly picky eater. I'm trying to expand my tastes, but you may laugh at me for having the palate of a Midwestern child. I am not a visually-oriented person and get bored almost immediately at art museums. I just got my first drivers license at age 25. And apparently I have very little shame.
You should message me if
You think we have similar interests and could have some fun together, I guess? Unless you answered that you think flag burning is worse than book burning, because we are going to have some major problems. Especially message me if you want to hear live music and/or drink beer.

Bonus points if you get what my username is referencing.
