My self-summary
Portland -> Indonesia -> Saudi Arabia -> Hawaii -> Korea -> Japan -> Portland -> Shenzhen, China

Hi there! I'm a fun, laid-back and friendly guy. I'm intelligent, well-schooled and well-traveled. I enjoy meeting new people from all different cultures and backgrounds, trying new things, and learning from life.

I tend to surround myself with positive people who have similar ambitions. Although I'm an American I was raised overseas in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and in Hawaii, and I have noticed that a lot of my friends come from diverse backgrounds. Of course, I'd also like to make local friends as well.

If any of this sounds interesting feel free to send me an email. Cheers!
What I’m doing with my life
I've worked as a software engineer for the last three years, but I have just accepted a teaching position in Shenzhen, China, starting in late July, 2016. I love to travel and am looking forward to experiencing a new region of Asia.
I’m really good at
Finding something fun to talk about and encourage people in a positive way.

Surfing is a big part of my life, so I'm planning to take some surf trips to Hainan, Taiwan, and Bali in the near future.

I love cooking, making cocktails, drinking wine, beer, and scotch. I also enjoy karaoke when the mood is right. I'm a good listener and try my best to give people my full attention when talking with them.
The first things people usually notice about me
is my friendly and encouraging demeanor.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I absolutely love to read, especially fantasy or some other form of fiction. But much of my reading time actually goes into studying and improving my technological abilities. I'm currently reading "Programming in Objective-C", "Music Theory for Dummies", "Musimathics", and various other audio production tutorials.

Again Harry Potter, Amelie (any Jean-Pierre Junet), 5th element (any Luc Besson) Inception, Lost in Translation, the Life Aquatic (any Wes Anderson), Princess Mononoke (any Hayao Miyazaki), Anchorman (anything w/ Will Ferrell), My Sassy Girl (Korean Films Rock), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (amazing soundtrack), Pan's Labyrinth, the Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, Ghostbusters, the Red Violin (amazing soundtrack), the Terminal, Run Fatboy Run (anything w/ Simon Pegg), Comedies in general--I love to laugh.

The Firefly Series, Family Guy, 30 Rock, Community, Parks and Recreation, Eureka, The Office, Fringe, the Simpsons (of course)

Bjork, Pat Metheny, Joe Hisaishi, Empire of the Sun, Phoenix, MGMT, Foster the People, XTC, Outkast, Death Cab for Cutie, Dntel, the Postal Service, Radio Head, Steven Malkmus and the Jicks, U2, Michael Jackson, My Bloody Valentine, the Smashing Pumpkins, Aphex Twin, Le'arc en ceil, Do as Infinity, Arai Akino, Girl's Generation (SNSD), Kabakuro, Cornelious, Ali Farka Toure, Amadou et Mariam, Kate Bush, Band of Horses, Steely Dan, Blind Pilot, Arcade Fire, 2 Door Cinema Club, Coldplay, Crash Test Dummies, Jeff Buckley, Thomas Newman, Frank Sinatra, Huun Huur-tu, Broken Social Scene, The National, Massive Attack, Duffy, Julietta Venegas, Yo Yo Ma.
Six things I could never do without
my loved ones, good food and drink, the ability to travel, surfing/tennis, good music, my laptop.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
effectively balancing my numerous passions in life.
I also like thinking about new song ideas, new video game designs, foreign languages, new travel plans, loved ones.
On a typical Friday night I am
out on the town with friends or at home cooking and watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a very unique (some would say bizarre) palate, and tend to cook like a mad scientist in the kitchen. Dine at your own risk ;)
You should message me if
Any of my qualities pique your interest.
