My self-summary
Tall, dark and handsomish, semi-adjusted guy with executive hair, open mind and a biting wit. Former skydiver, musician, and professional chess player, among other adventures. Current dad, philanthropist, entrepreneur and hockey/figure skating coach. I've been very lucky (and good) in life to get to the point where I can enjoy my time to the fullest. Edge case ENTJ - you have been properly warned.
What I’m doing with my life
Just regular life liberty and pursuit of happiness across all continents and climates. Loved piranha fishing in the Amazon. Freezing my ass off north of the Arctic circle. Avoiding the burn at a nude beach in the Caribbean. Picking a fight with a kangaroo in the Outback. Becoming a wine snob in Champagne. Offending ze French with my inscrutable accent. Participating in science fiction experiments in Area 51. Getting ready to sue Dos Equis for misappropriation of my life story, and growing a second heart in advance of travel through time and space.
I’m really good at
- Laughing at myself
- Making every conversation interesting;
- Getting people to move past their comfort zone;
- Putting the fear of G-d into little kids throwing tantrums in public with one look;
- Intimidating technology into working - computers, phones, TVs, printers, boilers, airplanes - as long as it has an on/off switch;
- Figuring out how to turn science fiction into science.
The first things people usually notice about me
Brains. Humor. Presence. Nose. Not necessarily in that order.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm a foodie, swallow books of every type (history, philosophy, sci-fi, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, information theory...) with unrelenting speed, into most music (have piano, will play!) and have learned that I can save myself a lot of time by watching (and making light of) movie previews. I'm an expert people watcher - no better way to use my curse of noticing everything about everything - so my insights generally make people laugh in a "I can't believe he just said that" kind of way. Hanging out with me is seldom boring - everything and everyone can be interesting given the right context.
The six things I could never do without
Aside from the family and friends..

- The Starbucks black card
- Roadtrips
- The ever expanding tribe of misfits that decided to follow me
- Speed reading
- My barber
- An occasional blues jam
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, the universe, and other topics one shouldn't discuss at a polite dinner table conversation. The next evolutionary cycle of the human race and how what I do is going to make it epic!
On a typical Friday night I am
Coaching hockey, grabbing food at an ethnic eatery (the less English speakers the better,) or patronizing one of my many favorite haute cuisine establishments in Chicago, Miami, and Vegas
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I might have accounts on other decidedly less vanilla sites
