My self-summary
Intellectual, overeducated, witty, introverted, thoughtful, skeptical, kind, satiric, trustworthy, indecisive, sensitive, curious, punctual, spiritual, enthusiastic, articulate, cynical, idealistic, far-looking and nearsighted.

Bleeding-heart, tax-and-spend, gun-confiscating, New York Times-reading, NPR-listening, PBS-watching, gay-marriage-approving, tree-hugging, liberal Democrat.

Would rather spend an evening talking politics or literature with a small group of friends than go to a big party. Would rather spend a week on a meditation retreat than a week in Vegas. Would rather go to a museum than a bar.

When I was younger, the quality I valued most in others was intelligence. Now, it's compassion.

I can't see "Likes" -- so please, if you're interested, contact me. No obligation!
What I’m doing with my life
Working, hanging out with friends, reading, going to the gym, taking long walks in the woods, learning Spanish, playing the guitar (badly).
I’m really good at
Talking, and--oddly enough--listening. The latter skill didn't come naturally, though--I had to work at it.
The first things people usually notice about me
You'd have to ask them, I guess.... Perhaps it's my sparkling wit, my abundant charm, my dashing good looks, or my vast erudition. Oh, wait...those are the things that I notice about me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Mostly a nonfiction reader these days--history, philosophy, current events. Movies--love the oldies: Bogart, Cagney, Warner Bros. melodramas, John Ford westerns, MGM musicals. Foreign films: La Dolce Vita, La Strada, Rules of the Game, Grand Illusion. Pretty eclectic taste in music, but mostly classical, and classic 60s/70s rock: Beatles, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell. Food--been on a bit of a health food kick lately (trying to clean up my act).
Six things I could never do without
Nothing material. I've never been the sort of person who's very attached to things...between 1995 and 2000 I lived in five different places, and I left a trail of possessions scattered across the country. I found that not only didn't I miss them, on the whole my life was better without them. My most prized possessions are in my heart and my head, not my apartment, which is pretty Spartan.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The meaning of life. No, seriously.
On a typical Friday night I am
Tired. I've been working all week, and I'm not a kid any more!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like sappy romantic comedies.
You should message me if
If you're looking to expand your circle of friends. Yes, I'm interested in romance if the right person comes along. But "friends first" is usually the way I'm most comfortable.
