My self-summary
Independent thinker and doer. I generally come across as aloof and cynical, but inside, I'm a complete goofball with an open heart and mind. My family is incredibly important to me and I'll go out of my way to do something special for them - especially my three nieces.

I'm active and prefer to spend time outside or doing something physical. Running and hiking are my top choices, but almost anything kinesthetic is cool.

When I'm not running around, I like exploring new places, which is pretty much everywhere around here. I love cooking and I'd like to learn to grow my own vegetables because I eat a lot of them. Animals are also really cool and I tend to connect with them more easily than most people - so if you come with a furry companion, you get bonus points. Unless it's a guinea pig.
What I’m doing with my life
I work for a nonprofit in SF supporting evidence-based climate advocacy. It's good work, but it's probably not what I am most passionate about (the actual day-to-day of the job. I'm highly opinionated about issues around climate and the environment). I'm working on discovering what I'd like to do for the rest of my life - or most of the rest of it - and coming up with a plan to work towards whatever that ends up being. Probably writing.

I'm a recent transplant to the Bay Area (September 2016). Originally from Maryland, I moved out to San Diego in 2015. I ended up finding a job up here, so I am discovering all the neat things to do around these parts.
I’m really good at
Being silly and getting shit done. Dropping things.

Not good at: baking, clothes.
The first things people usually notice about me
Rbf? My brow furrows when I'm thinking and I'm always thinking, so yeah.

I'm skinny. I give side-eye. I'm weird.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - sometimes I'm in a Carl Hiaasen mood; sometimes Stephen King. I like cozying up with elaborate fantasies (The Name of the Wind; The Warded Man) or tearing through sci-fi (Ready Player One; Armor).

Movies - I'll watch cerebral stuff and like it. Maybe even love it. But, c'mon, I want to be entertained! Edge of Tomorrow was amazing. I only fell asleep during The Force Awakens the second time around. Anything Miyazaki. Pixar/Disney (I love Zootopia). The Nightmare Before Christmas (and the soundtrack). The Station Agent. Death at a Funeral.

Series - GoT; Les Revenants; Bob's Burgers; Doctor Who; Doc Martin; Haven. Westworld, recently, which has caused me to wander around in a semi-permanent state of confusion. And Stranger Things.

Music - everything from alt-J, Rage Against the Machine, Cold War Kids, Tool, Prokofiev, Darlingside, Florence + the Machine, Stravinsky, Trampled by Turtles, Imagine Dragons, Metallica, Lady Gaga, and one hit wonders from the 90s.

Food - I eat a lot of jam. Just out of the jar. I'm trying to balance all the people who do the same with peanut butter. A karmic pb&j sandwich.

I also LOVE Middle Eastern food (Afghani, Iraqi, Persian, Lebanese, etc.) and bibimbap.
The six things I could never do without
Head, shoulders, knees and toes. Knees and toes.

Hydroxychloroquine.

Running shoes. Minimalist running is bullshit.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Places I want to go and things I want to do.

Climate change; running; space; art; spaces; running; color; people; homelessness; murder; socioeconomics. And running.

The optimal positioning of people on BART.

Fooooooooood.

What the exchange rate is at Gringotts.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sleeping?

Before that, Netflix and beer. I'm super awesome and love hanging out with myself.
You should message me if
You're down for a run.*

You'll help me learn to cook tasty food.

It'd also be great if you like to get up early on weekends and do things. I'm a morning person and it'd be nice to have you along for an early morning hike or run.

*I don't care if you're into running. You can be really into anything and I'll happily listen to you talk at length about it. Just be prepared for me to ramble on about training theory, the upper redesign on the Brooks line-up, speed work, and lots of complaining about hills (shhh, I love them).
