I've been in London for a couple of years or so now, living and working. I moved from New Zealand looking for a new job - figured that if I was going to look outside my current city, I might as well look anywhere in the world. And now here I am, on practically the other side of the planet!
It's a hell of a change compared to a tiny city in New Zealand, but it's been fantastic so far - better travel opportunities, more choice for *everything*, superior public transport, etc. There are a lot of more people - still not convinced if that’s better or worse.
I like cats and dogs both (and other animals!), but dogs are more fun, albeit more work too...
It's fun, it's something I'm really good at, it pays well, all my colleagues are amazing - it would be tough to find a better job!
Have travelled a fair bit since I've been in London - been to Spain, France, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, and Norway so far, plus a bit of time up in Scotland. Though it's somewhat complicated by the fact that I *really* like sleep, while tourist places are mostly 9-5 😭
In the past, I have also been to New Zealand (duh!), Australia, and China.
Otherwise: looking to make new friends in London; See the city, followed by the country, then Europe, and then the WORLD! Ahem; Playing video games/board games/etc - all the nerdy pursuits; A bit of programming on the side (yes, I do enjoy it enough to do it for fun!)
Also a lot of reflection on my health and fitness (or lack thereof), and what I can do to improve it.
Oh, and secretly building my moon base at the weekends.
Sending well-spelled, grammatically correct texts even when too drunk to stand.
Making people laugh.
Lifting heavy things.
Books Prefer humorous / satirical Fantasy - e.g. Pratchett. Also a fan of Urban Fantasy, such as the Dresden Files. Other authors I like are Mike Carey (Felix Castor series), Robin Hobb, George R. R. Martin, Philip Pullman, Simon R. Green, Terry Brooks.
These days I tend to read mostly to turn my brain off, so I tend a bit more towards what is basically literary popcorn, rather than serious, heavy works.
I don't dislike Sci-Fi, but for some reason I don't read too much of it. Maybe it's because we're already living in the future?
Crime / Mystery / Thrillers are generally not my thing. Romance is really not my thing.
Movies / T.V. Action / Comdey / Dramas. e.g. The Avengers, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Supernatural, Carnivale, 300, Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, Rome, Hustle, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Boston Legal, Blade, Monsters Inc., etc.
Not a big fan of horror - find I get too twitchy afterwards. And no Rom-Coms. Just No.
Music Trance, Rock, Metal - pretty much anything that's fast. Slow / relaxing music is good occasionally, if I really need to relax.
Other Stuff Enjoy RPGs (both computer and table-top), and computer gaming in general.
* Internet - every time I have to go without it for even an hour or two, I realise how much of my life revolves around this.
* Humor - the best way to cope with anything.
* Contact lenses - travelling without them is *the worst*
* Other People - I am definitely not cut out to be a full-on hermit.
How did I get to be the person I am today?
How do I become the person I want to be without losing all that I like about myself?
You're intrigued (or at least not outright horrified) by the fact that I'm an incredible nerd.
You need that second person to play co-op games with.
