My self-summary
I had a long Infinite Jest quote here for a while, but its inclusion was ultimately unsuccessful even if its heart was in the right place. Please don't think I don't care.

In brief, I tend to err on the quiet and introverted side. Definitely not one for the club scene and never fought for my right to party; apologies to MCA. Smaller gatherings are much more my speed. Exceedingly liberal in the political sense. Part southerner, part northeasterner, but probably mostly Californian now (specifically the southern variety). Much more outdoorsy than I used to be; more into mountains than oceans. I'm a big fan of animals, but currently have no pets.

This seems incomplete, but things are much less interesting when you know everything up front.
What I’m doing with my life
i'm working on a phd dissertation, which will either be on track for completion or abandonment by the end of the year. for income i work on a dengue fever research project primarily doing modeling, which keeps me living at the standard to which i'm accustomed. i also hike and play board games a lot.
I’m really good at
the dougie. you ain't fucking with my dougie.
The first things people usually notice about me
i tend to be pretty quiet when around a group of new people ... i function much better one-on-one. tattoos are pretty hard to miss if i'm not wearing long sleeves.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
there's pretty much always overlap in these interests whether or not they're listed explicitly, but i'll play along. sharing musical interests does still get me pretty excited; i like most genres and i listen to lots of new music all the time, from pop to metal to rap. i go to shows once or twice a month.

5 favorite albums ever (in order): neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea, m.i.a. - kala, kanye west - mbdtf, weezer - pinkerton, nirvana - in utero
favorite albums of 2015 (roughly in order): grimes, sufjan stevens, vince staples, father john misty, deafheaven, jamie xx, drake, joanna newsom, waxahatchee, carly rae jepsen

currently reading my beloved brontosaurus, and catching up on various comics (a roughly biannual event).

recent-ish new (to me) shows i liked: rick & morty, master of none, the knick, making a murderer

i tend to be way behind the pop culture curve on movies.

why exactly is food in this section? i like to cook, but i find myself much more motivated to do so when i'm not the only one eating (i hope you like plants!). i'm strictly vegetarian, and mostly vegan (which is kind of a silly thing to say, but whatever). i'm not really the proselytizing sort about it. i absolutely proselytize for everything else in this section. i will recommend the shit out of some music if you get me started.
Six things I could never do without
ignoring the obvious, i could do without most things if necessary. i'm a pretty big fan of internet access, speakers, floss, and nice weather.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
whether or not this album is any good. simplification and decreasing the volume of my possessions (mostly failing at this).
On a typical Friday night I am
enjoying the lack of impending work. i do the bar thing less these days, but i do enjoy a good show (usually at casbah, soda bar, hideout, or observatory; house of blues here is one of my least favorite venues anywhere). my work schedule is flexible, which means that fridayness is not an important attribute for me to consider when making plans.
You should message me if
drinks and conversation work pretty well and are a minimal investment if you might be interested in finding out more. hooray beer! or coffee, or whatever.
