My self-summary
I'm a laid-back guy with a penchant for random jokes, bombing and blatant plagiarism be damned. I'm a child at heart, and big into the geek arts, but do my best to keep it in check. If I know you don't care about my favorite sitcom, my opinion on the latest issue of Ms. Marvel, or how the Red Sox are just crushing the ball lately, we'll talk about something else. I'm a music aficionado (I'd say elitist, but I like a lot of bad music, too,) a big movie buff, and I know so much about pop culture that it's probably what's prevented me from being a scientist or computer programmer. But when it comes down to it, I just love hanging out with friends and wasting hours away just babbling on about life.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm kinda living the dream right now. I'm a manager at the local comic shop, loving what I do, and once a week, I host a pub quiz in Des Moines. But the dream situation is me either taking a hack at being a writer/author, or scrounging up enough money to move somewhere where I could get work as a voice actor. In the meantime, I try to just enjoy my life as best I can within reason. It's pretty fun, to be honest.
I’m really good at
Well, like I said, I have a lot of pointless knowledge. I'm typically the first to get called when a friend's trying to place the name of an actor or song. I used to help make my team quite unpopular at the weekly pub quiz, but now I'm the one running the show. I've done broadcasting in the past, so I have a pretty well-refined voice for things like that. And I can crack up my friends at the bar when I unleash Blue Steel. Oh, yeah, that reminds me - I'm a career designated driver. I don't drink, but have no problem at all when it comes to others drinking in my presence, so I'm always popular when we hit the bars. Also, cheering and/or complaining about the Red Sox, Spoonerisms, Picross and forgetting things.
The first things people usually notice about me
Either my height or my black-rimmed glasses. I've been told I look like Drew Carey now, and I'm still trying to determine whether that's a compliment or not...

Oh, and I have a gap tooth, so that too. If you're a lady that goes wild for guys who look vaguely like '80's-era David Letterman... come and get it?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Shows: Venture Bros, 30 Rock, Men in Blazers, Bob's Burgers, Community, Arrested Development, Iron Chef, Key & Peele, Space Ghost, and many others.

Books: The Harry Potter series, anything by Arthur C. Clarke, Sarah Vowell, "Now I Can Die In Peace" by Bill Simmons. Also a lot of comics and manga - my favorite comic series right now is Rob Guillory and John Layman's Chew, a great mix of humor and weirdness. And I also really dig Saga, Sex Criminals, Hawkeye and The Wake.

Movies: Rushmore, Anything directed by Wes Anderson, 2001, High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Blues Brothers, The Comedians of Comedy, the James Bond Films, Hero, Shaolin Soccer, Scott Pilgrim. And because of the job, of course, I gotta keep up on anything Avengers or Star Trek/Wars.

Music: open to just about anything - my only turnoffs are mainstream modern hip-hop and country. Lately, I've been digging on synth-heavy, dance able stuff like Hot Chip, CHVRCHES, Disclosure and Phantogram. Ask me about my Spotify stuff if you want a sample.

Food: I'm a farm kid, so I used to be strictly meat and potatoes. But I've been watching what I eat a bit more carefully (and dropping something like 50 pounds in the process,) so while I indulge every now and then, I've learned to embrace some lighter fare. But I still love me some good barbecue or Mexican food.
The six things I could never do without
My iTunes collection, my sense of humor, my lucky quilt made from my grandpa's work overalls, my friends' companionship, my family's love and support, and enough sensibility to know this sounds a touch too treacly, but screw it, it's fun.
On a typical Friday night I am
Busting my ass at the shop, helping out the local comic fans and Magic players, then relaxing when I finally get off the clock at 10. But at least I get a typically open Saturday and Sunday...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Uh.. I'm a sucker for girls in glasses? Or should I go with the fact that I have a faint scar under my right eye from faceplanting on a coffee table when I was 3? Maybe that my name was Michael for a month, before I got adopted. Crap, how much time do I have left? Dammit! PASS!

Oh, wait, here's a fun one. I was the subject of a Craigslist Missed Connection once. Would have been totally unaware if a friend hadn't informed me. Even went on a date with the girl once. We didn't click, but at least I'm memorable!
You should message me if
...if you want a good laugh, or you're looking for some good music to listen to. Also, the whole dating/companionship thing. Kinda why I'm on here. ;)
