My self-summary
A nondescript awesome, and endlessly charming masters graduate of Columbia University, currently doing econometric analysis of US Healthcare data and strategy for an oil distribution business. I just returned to Toronto after 10 years abroad (most recently in San Francisco). I grew up in Mississauga and went to high school at the University of Toronto Schools. Also, I enjoy hiking, watching baseball (Blue Jays and A's), indie music (Broken Social Scene, Wolf Parade, Japandroids, Fleet Foxes to name a few...), reading (Kafka on the Shore, Savage Detectives, Sacred Games), plays (Waiting for Godot, Hedda Gabler, Life in the Theater) and scotch. I enjoy travelling and did undergrad in Scotland.
What I’m doing with my life
Took a master's to procrastinate but turned out to be hard work. Leading a team that models the impacts of the Affordable Care Act for the US Government agency in charge of implementation. Also involved in strategy and execution for Petro Canada lubricant distribution in Asia. Basically, I like doing econometrics.
I’m really good at
being really optimistic and happy. Also, perhaps paradoxically, calmly solving problems. Also great at finding the interesting spots in cities, be they watering holes or other wonders.
The first things people usually notice about me
Pretty shy at first but usually connect over music or just general affinity. I think most people are usually weirdly comfortable around me, so some of my friends are ridiculously conservative and others are unabashedly liberal but I connect with all of them.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Love anything, but Montreal Smoked Meat Poutine is fantastic. Also love to cook but I usually let the quality of ingredients shine through (code for: I don't like doing anything particularly fancy).
Three books have changed my life: Kafka on the Shore, the Savage Detectives, and To the Lighthouse. I love reading in general though and tend to alternate between fiction and non-fiction.
Mostly indie but like all genres except Country and Trance typically. Favorite bands include Neil Young, M83, Japandroids, The Who, Broken Social Scene, and Wolf Parade.
True Detective, Show Me a Hero, The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Americans, Rome, Seinfeld, and endless Simpsons references!
Birdman, A Most Violent Year, Brokeback Mountain, Beginners, The Tree of Life, Yi Yi, No Country for Old Men, The Thin Red Line, WALL-E
Six things I could never do without
Smartphone and a good book. Can't really think of anything else at the moment.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
whether or not my idea to write a short story a night based on a single accessed by pressing shuffle on my music player will ever come to fruition. It will have three chapters: On Dreams, On Love, and On the Inconvenience of Taking Public Transportation.
On a typical Friday night I am
Chilling with friends, either seeing a play, going to a bar, or checking out a struggling decent-ish band.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I believe in embracing emotions head on, so great joys and great sadness. Practically, it means if you're angry at me, I'll probably insist on talking it out no matter how terrible an idea that is.
You should message me if
you haven't clicked away by this point.
