My self-summary
I am wonderful... what am I supposed to say? This is a dating site. Well, obviously, I'm not (you only have to look at the pics or keep on reading this profile to notice that). I can be a bit nerdy, and I tend to arrive always late. I don't want to portray myself as Singapore Airways when I'm afraid I can be sometimes like Jet Blue (that's too much self-deprecating, though).

I love to read, to write, to chat (mainly about politics, economics, books, music, art, traveling...). I like red wine (it is part of my country's culture), and champaigne. I like art exhibits, but I am not an artist (I need to pay my bills). I love animals--actually, as a friend once told me, "animals are the only people who really understand you". I don't know what he meant--can you help me?

According to Facebook's test 'Which singer are you' (this is really scientific research) I am Bjork. Funny enough--I don't like her songs.

I am a human being, in DC, and that's it
What I’m doing with my life
I write lies and get paid for it--like several thousand people in DC. I don't create the lies--I talk to people, they tell me things (that is, lies) then I put them into paper (or online, or both) in a foreign language. I love my job. I am also trying not to let work overshadow life.
I’m really good at
Not judging people. Listening. Maybe writing (that is what people say, but the fact that I am a totally unpublished writer somewhat challenges that assumption).
The first things people usually notice about me
No bloody idea. You'd better ask them. I can give you my friend's emails and phone numbers to ask them. Be nice, please. If they say anything bad, it is because they are jealous. Maybe you will find them more interesting than me!!!!!! In that case, at least, I'll do some good!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: One Hundred Years Of Solitude (I know some parts by heart, but I don't know if that is good or simply reveals that I can be very obsessive), and Borges' short stories. Now I'm reading Gladwell's Outliers (very original, I know), and Allan Bloom's Love and Friendship (what has a closeted gay neoconservative have to say about that...?). I also like Jonathan Swift's books. And newspapers, magazines, and so on.

Music: Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, Peter Gabriel, Leonard Cohen, The Cure, REM, Paul Simon... If you find that too depressing, I can switch (only for you) to Coldplay, U2, Khaled, African music (Youssou N'Dour, Femi Kuti, Fela Kuti, or Wazimbo... I bet you never heard of that last one). I like disco in small dosage. I am also ready to listen to other stuff.

Movies: Being John Malkovich, Jesus of Montreal, The Legend of 1900, Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, Before the Sunset (but not Before the Sunrise), and every Woody Allen movie up until Deconstructing Harry... again, if it is too pretentious, we can watch Avatar (I actually liked it, maybe because I haven't seen Pocahontas).

Food: I like almost everything. I can brag I have eaten crocodile, which I liked. I can't stand junk food...
The six things I could never do without
Not six, but nine, sorry OKCupid: 1) Pink Floyd & Roger Waters; 2) One Hundred Years Of Solitude and Borges; 3) My friends; 4) My relatives (overseas); 5) Learning new things; 6) Writing and reading (not necessarily in that order); 7) Irony; 8) Non-judgmental people; 8) Coffee; 9) Traveling... or thinking about traveling (Did I say I daydream?)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Writing, reading, newspapers, magazines, traveling, daydreaming, and sex (I am a man, remember, we think of sex every seven seconds; since I have such a rich intellectual life, I think of it every ten seconds).
On a typical Friday night I am
Go for dinner with friends, go for drinks, have drinks at home (or in my block's rooftop if the spring comes), go to a club, go to parties, go to the movies, stay at home, read, watch tv, all of the above. Or who the heck knows! I am not a robot (there is already one in OKCupid, do we need two?)

Any suggestion for a Friday night? Something more original than the conventional set of things I have written?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
This is private, I guess.
You should message me if
... if you want. Also, if you can stand someone with a foreign accent.
