Why am I here? Probably for the exact same reason why you are. At our age there are obligations, commitments and time constraints as well as little opportunity to meet nice people in our day-to-day activities.
Finding a companion, friend and potential partner really should come down to more than just a photo, or even a photo and a paragraph or two. Sure initial attraction is on the physical layer, but it goes well beyond that. Remember the old days when you asked someone to dance at a club? Was it because they had a PHD in Astro Physics or because they attracted you? duh! It seems so simple.
Reality is it is a "process" that goes well beyond the photo and paragraph (aka: "date"). We're all here looking for that, some a little more committed, some that should be committed, but that's a different story.
Me in a paragraph... Easy to talk with, great listener, resourceful, intelligent, thoughtful, dedicated, curious, affectionate (with the right person), and a great parent. I enjoy learning new things, figuring out how to do old things better, I'm a fan of 80's music and Country. I'm comfortable staying in and watching a movie, or going out for a romantic evening. I love the beach year round, day or night, but in the summer I love being there the most.
I can list all the things I do or have done through the years, but that would be a long list, and likely a good conversation when we meet. Suffice it to say, I will try almost anything once, some things twice... Though I draw the line at jumping out of a perfectly working airplane!
It's hard putting yourself out there, contacting a perfect stranger to ask "you want to be my friend, lover partner, etc...". It's even tougher when you receive no feedback from someone you are interested in. I respect that, and will reply to you even if it is to say "I don't think we are a match because I draw the limit at 14 cats."
To all, I wish you success in your search. I truly believe there is someone for everyone, and we are where we are because we have yet to meet that person.
I try and keep myself busy, I'm very involved in my son's life, and am glad he lives with me. That in itself accounts for most of my time!
I manage to hold down a full time job working with children, and love what I do. I'm active in my local community, rather than sit at home and complain about it, I try to make a difference.
When time and funds allow, I am working on restoring a classic car.
As relationships go, I try to be a peacemaker, and always look for common grounds to resolve eventual differences.
I'm a pretty good cook, resourceful, and like to try new things.
Not much of a book reader for fun. Its so much easier to see the movie... in and done in 2 hours. I've heard people say the book is so much better than the movie. Like "Jaws". What did the movie have going for it, except a 30' animated shark? The book had.....well, pages!
Usually when I read its either a trade journal or a computer related book (Last one was Understanding SQL Server). I like most kinds of movies that are comedy, adventure and even some chick flix. Occasionally, I'll watch horror/slasher films if I have to, but they are not a preference.
