My self-summary
I try to make my life actually be the way most people make their lives look on Facebook. I climb big mountains. I sail. I surf. I play music. Like most people, I work. I try to enjoy my job as much as possible, and I try to pick out jobs where I like my coworkers and believe in the projects I’m working on.

I travel. Everyone says they love to travel. Usually this means that they pay huge amounts of money to fly somewhere, sit by the pool and drink a fruity drink, completely insulated from the raw realities of the places they visit. I like to travel to remote and somewhat dangerous places and stay there for extended periods of time. I prefer to travel overland rather than fly. It makes the experience more intimate.

I’ve decided that I don’t have a secret inner self that would shine through, if only I could break free of the imagined forces holding me back. No. If I could be doing anything I wanted, I would work less and do the other things more. But fundamentally I would be doing the same things I do now.

Ultimately I strive to live without regret, and to make my life into a work of art.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Every once in a while I’ll be listening to my Spotify and think to myself, “Damn, I have fantastic taste in music.” I like far more than I can list here, but I’ll pick out a few that I think are representative.

If I could only listen to one band/artist for the rest of my life, I would choose the collected works of the Beatles.

If I was only allowed one album for the rest of my life, it would be Deltron 3030.

And if I could only have one song for the rest of my life, I’d put “The Passenger” by Iggy Pop on repeat and never look back.

Some of my favorite movies: Donnie Darko, Raging Bull, The Godfather, Reservoir Dogs, and Lost Highway.

I don’t read as much as I used to, something I regard as unfortunate. If I had to choose a favorite book, I would pick “The Satanic Verses”. Other favorites include “The Omnivore’s Dilemma”, “Guns, Germs and Steel”, “Collapse” and “The Stand”.

Food: Yes.
Six things I could never do without
Modern life has made us forget that there are very few things we truly couldn’t do without. Saying I need air and water doesn’t tell you much about me. So instead, I’m going to make a list of things without which my life would be significantly worse.

• Close friends who live nearby
• The beautiful Bay Area
• My guitars
• My rock shoes and harness
• Black coffee
• My sailboat
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've always thought it would be pretty great to be an art thief. Seems like a great way to be a gangster without getting gangster-whacked.
You should message me if
You want to watch Donnie Darko with me. You're a girl drummer and you want to start a band. You have 1968 Fender Mustang you want to give me. You think people use facebook too much.

But let's be real. You're not going to read this and message me. You're going to read it after I message you. That's how online dating works.
