My self-summary
Do you love the movies Center Stage and the Cutting Edge? Do you pretend to ironically like the song Stay by Lisa Loeb (but secretly kinda love it)? Have you ever whipped your hair out of a swimming pool like Ariel in the Little Mermaid? Are you smart, progressive, kind, and independent? I think we should be friends.

Here are some quick hits about me:

I'm proudly a feminist.

I think the people you're with matter more than where you are.

Friends and family are more important to me than work. I just never want to be the dad who misses a dance recital because of a business trip.

I think RuPaul's Drag Race is the best show on TV.
What I’m doing with my life
I just hired as a professor at Porterville College. I have a PhD in Communication from UCSB.
I’m really good at
Knowing all of the words to songs.
Pop culture trivia.
Settlers of Catan.
Beerio Kart.
The first things people usually notice about me
I look a lot like Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I just read Room and it was phenomenal. I also love East of Eden, High Fidelity, Gone Girl, the Harry Potter books (Goblet of Fire is my favorite; that's when shit gets real), and the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Movies: Nightmare Before Christmas, Toy Story 3, A Goofy Movie, Children of Men, Moulin Rouge, Lawrence of Arabia, Brick, Trainspotting, Fargo, Casablanca, Drive

Shows: Hannibal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Parks and Rec, Community, Breaking Bad, the West Wing, Arrested Development, Friday Night Lights, Louie, Game of Thrones, Black Mirror, Banshee

Music: My favorite band is WHY? and my favorite musician is Paul Simon. Between them, they pretty much encapsulate the five broad categories of music I tend to like:

Hipster Indie Bands that Would Play/Have Played at Coachella: LCD Soundsystem, Grimes, Yeasayer, Haim, alt-J, Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, Sleigh Bells, Modest Mouse, Tegan and Sara, Postal Service, Broken Bells, Talking Heads, St. Vincent, the White Stripes

Stuff My Parents Listened To: Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Johnny Cash, Simon and Garfunkel, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Joao Gilberto (currently on a big Bossa Nova kick actually; Desafinado is a jam), Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Vince Guaraldi (Charlie Brown Christmas has 3 of my 5 favorite Christmas songs in it), the Carpenters, Alison Krauss, Beach Boys

90s Pop, Alt Rock, and Rap Hits: Alannis Morissette, Third Eye Blind, Sister Hazel, Counting Crows, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Pre-Rock Steady No Doubt, Boyz II Men, Nirvana

Sad Bastard Music: Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor, Bon Iver, Ray LaMontagne, Iron and Wine, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake,

Dense Hip Hop/Trip Hop: Run the Jewels, Aesop Rock, El-P, Restiform Bodies, Grand Buffet, Atmosphere, Yoni & Geti, MC Chris

Food: I love Indian food (naan is the best!), lasagna, a good salad (my favorite is spinach, apple, blueberry, and dried cranberry), and peanut butter and banana sandwiches on toast with a honey drizzle.
Six things I could never do without
1. Family and friends
2. Good books
3. The occasional spontaneous trip
4. Witty banter
5. Settlers of Catan
6. Time to relax
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How "honey drizzle" is the best 2-word combo in the English language.
On a typical Friday night I am
Going out with friends to a bar or a concert, or staying in and watching a movie/playing board games.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm only here because I got kicked off ExcellentCupid and AboveAverageCupid.

I cry every time I watch the Land Before Time. And I think it's weird if you don't.

If you put on the song We've Only Just Begun by the Carpenters, I won't be able to stop myself from singing along to every single word.
You should message me if
Pick one of the following:

You wanna listen to Jagged Little Pill front to back and have a dance party.

You wanna drink cocktails and play Scrabble, Boggle, Bananagrams, Settlers, or Connect Four.

You wanna watch a shitty movie from our adolescence and play a drinking game (I played a great one recently watching Crossroads starring Britney Spears).

You wanna get coffee, then ice cream, then walk around a thrift store.

You wanna go to a cheap concert and bob our heads awkwardly.

If you're secretly a 50-year-old man, just realize it's going to be awkward when we meet up for drinks. No serial killers, please!
