My self-summary
I tend to improv crazy stories with friends when we're bored. Everything from the "Russians" kidnapping me to sell my phone, to Heart Attack, the super villain with the punny name that does terrible things to heroes and Superman refuses to take down. So be prepared for that.

Mostly I'm a nerdy guy who plays (and makes) video games. I go to school for Computer Science, and have dedicated the rest of my life to the field after dipping my toes in high-school and having now shipped myself across the country to dive deeper into it.

I love to Wikibinge, it's a habit I got myself into after watching Stargate in high-school and cross referencing every thing in every episode I watched with the Gateworld wiki. I can't tell you how bad it was when I discovered TVTropes. I lost weeks to that site. Sigh.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm going to school for Computer Science and recently finished an Internship at Microsoft, and I'm looking forward to next year when I will return for another internship.
I’m really good at
I seem to be good at analyzing medium sized problems in programming and trying to correct them by manipulating data effectively. When my first game team needed an easily modifiable HUD/Menu system, I spent a few weeks reading about trees (the data structure) and implemented a serialized system for creating our HUD and traversing it using mouse input.

This semester I ended up writing a basic single block sized memory allocator to deal with our game objects. It's not perfect, but it's currently working, if a bit memory starved with cache misses galore.

Basically, I strive for elegance in my programming creations. I want them to be easy to use, and easy to understand by the folks who use them. I seem to be pretty good at it so far.
The first things people usually notice about me
It depends on the season really. In the winter people notice my grandpa sweater. When it's warmer out they tend to notice the dragon tee-shirts I got over a decade a go and refuse to get rid of.

I wish I were joking. Those are seriously the things people point out to me the most. Although I do have a few sweaters people seems to more genuinely like and give me compliments on.

I'm strange with food. One of my friends likes to say that I deal with food in extremes. I find many things palatable, or "okay", but generally refer to that feeling as something I "don't like" because I'd prefer to be knocked out of the park by something I really enjoy. Basically I prefer consistency over something variable.

So with that out of the way, some things I really like, but keep in mind I'll willing to give most things a shot at least once if I don't have to commit to a whole lot of it.

Pizza, Chinese Food, Hibachi Food, Beef Stew, Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes, Chicken Soup. Pho, Beef and Barley Soup, Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, and so much more. I'm basically a Meat and Potatoes guy at heart.
The six things I could never do without
1. Blankets: These are pretty much the be all end all. Cold? Wrap yourself. Sad? Wrap yourself. Cat yelling at you? Kitty-ritto. Hands down most important tool in my arsenal.

2. Computer: I love computer science and really enjoy programming. There are lots of interesting little problems to solve, and it would be very annoying to work on them without a computer.

3. Phone: This is less about having the ability to call folks (Although that's important too.) and more about the ability to connect to the internet and get interesting information on any topic on a moments notice. It's my calendar, my notepad, my dictionary, and my most important tool for communication at a moments notice. I can get by without it, but I'd rather not.

4. White Boards: Okay, this is a little weak, because I'm running out of things to say. But hear me out. I'm a programmer, and you might not believe it, but these things really help with diagramming things out.

5. Friends: I've tried being the loner and it just doesn't work. I just need some folks that I can have some fun with and blow off some steam with after a crazy week at school.

6. Music: I love music, and I need it in my life. Without it the world would be a much blander place.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I'd like to do some work that actually impacts people one day. Not in a rock star kind of way. But for example I'd like to work on Windows for Microsoft. With a product like that there's rarely any one big thing that ever changes someones perception. It's the little things. I'd love to be the guy who just makes that thing a bit more secure, a bit faster. Make things like multitouch gestures worth a damn on Windows. People don't think about these things, but they're important. When I upgraded to 8.1, I couldn't get over the fact that the Explorer actually opens to "This PC" over libraries. That was something that bugged me since 2009 with the release of 7.

Working at Valve is a bit of a dream, but as I work on games at Digipen, it's less the games I'm interested in working on and more their initiatives on Linux. That's something I'd like to learn more about and cut my teeth on. Working on something as big and well cares for as the Linux Kernel.
On a typical Friday night I am
I generally hang out at home. But when I do go out, I enjoy watching movies, going out to restaurants, and even the occasionally gaming convention, (Like PAX Prime!)

And I always like to try a new board game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I was told this should be more embarrassing and less about me joking around.

The best I've got is that after discovering fan fiction with the rest of the nerds in middle school I started writing some. It's painfully bad. I've probably still got some of it backed up somewhere.

The best (worst) part? I still read fan fiction from time to time. Guilty pleasure. The nerdy-ness flows.
