My self-summary
I've lived here in Gilroy for long enough, I guess it's time to finally update my profile...

Are you a gamer girl, music geek, or math nerd? Are you passionate, intelligent, and passionate about intelligence? If so, we might be a match!

By day, I am a computer programmer. By night, I am a cartoon-watching, comic reading, D&D playing, video game playing (and making), music composing geek. I'm looking for someone who shares my passions, or at least is willing to tolerate them, as they are abundant and an important part of keeping myself sane.

Beyond that, I like to think that I am a decent, courteous person. I have two cats, a lot of stuff, and live in Gilroy in a cool downtown apartment .

I was born in Los Gatos, so I'm a Bay Area native, but I lived away from 2002 until 2016. Glad to be back near some family and old friends, but a bit depressed by the cost of living...
What I’m doing with my life
After finishing a Master's Degree and working on (but not completing) a PhD at UNC Chapel Hill, I took a job with a video game startup in Santa Monica. I moved to Las Vegas in 2012 for a job, and recently moved back to the Bay Area for a different job.
I’m really good at
Programming computers, particularly in the areas of real-time graphics, games, and Virtual Reality.
I am a decent musician (keyboards and vocals) and enjoy writing music.
Once I warm up in social situations, I am a master of bad puns. Look out.
The first things people usually notice about me
My hair. Or the fact that I'm often dressed in all black.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Anything by Tad Williams. Most fantasy/Sci-Fi. Books about atheism or debunking paranormal claims are fun, too. His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman is great since it combines both! Oh, and Richard Dawkins is my personal hero.
Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. Adaptation. Lost in Translation.
Music: Prog Metal! That means Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Pain of Salvation, Symphony X, Opeth, Tool, Devin Townsend, etc. I also enjoy the lighter side of Prog, such as Spock's Beard, Enchant, Porcupine Tree and others.
Food: Almost anything but lemons. Lemons are evil.
Six things I could never do without
* Some way to make melodic music. I play keyboards, but would be happy with a guitar, recorder, or something else in a pinch.
* Some way to record my thoughts and ideas, such as a computer or old-fashioned notebook (writing implement included)

Those are the two most important to me, and would go nuts if I didn't have them on the hypothetical desert island situation. Four other things that are important in my life:

* my cats
* books to read
* my allergy pills
* a good, solid pair of hiking boots. Blisters are no fun.

Why are my cats not in the top two? Well, if we are talking about some truly dire situation, like being stranded on a desert island, I would prefer that they were happy at home with someone else taking care of them than suffering with me. If we are instead talking about having to lose everything I own to a fire, then they would be the first things I save.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
* Video Game graphics programming
* Architecting video game engines and tools pipelines to make it easy on artists, designers and programmers to do their work
* The music that's playing in my head.
* Virtual Reality (it's job-related)
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, reading, sleeping, playing games, who knows? There is no "typical" in my schedule, which is how I prefer it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The first concert I ever saw was Air Supply
You should message me if
