My self-summary
I'm usually too modest to talk about myself, but friends would likely apply the usual array of adjectives to me: smart, witty, kind, sensitive, caring, open-minded, trustworthy, honest, and loyal. Sometimes any or all of these to a fault.

I hate putting myself into boxes to describe myself, so I won't do the same to you. I have obvious preferences (don't we all?) but I assiduously try to avoid categorizing people by "type" because it's very limiting and people are much more complex and interesting. So I don't really have a type per se, So I don't really have a "type" per se, but the closest I have to one is "nerdy boy next door."

With that in mind, I am much more interested in your intelligence, personality, and kindness (you should have them) and heart (it should beat). Physical chemistry does matter initially, but it's never a make-or-break characteristic and certainly shouldn't be the sole criterion for anything as important as friendship (or anything beyond). I initially was going to write that I look at the whole package, but I realize the potential for misinterpretation makes it not the most elegant turn of phrase.

I'm also somewhat shy and reserved in social situations, but I usually can overcome that to make the first move and try to break the ice, but I'm usually more comfortable and relaxed (and usually flattered) when someone takes the initiative if they're so inclined. Once I feel comfortable with someone, I can break through the barrier of introversion fairly quickly. So come on in, the water's fine. (And if you look good in a bathing suit, it's not a prerequisite, but it certainly doesn't hurt.)

So I soldier on looking to meet that special someone, although I'm perfectly happy to meet some good platonic friends along that journey. If you're interested in either, I hope to hear from you!
What I’m doing with my life
By day, I work as a medical editor. I also work as a freelance editor specializing in constructing and editing puzzles and games, currently working on a number of projects including editing a magazine.

When I'm not working, I enjoy word games of all stripes, making and solving puzzles, reading, photography, travel, film, aquatic sports, scouring the Internet for new ways to fritter away my scarce free time, and I'm sure other things that I've forgotten because I haven't done them in so long.
I’m really good at
Being a caring friend and a good listener, getting along with most people, making people laugh.
The first things people usually notice about me
My intelligence, my sense of humor, my smile, my blue eyes. I've also been told I have a nice butt, but I've never been able to turn my head far enough to verify that. :)

Six things I could never do without
My family, but especially my adorable niece and nephew; my friends; good health; my laptop (is that cheating, since it combines things like Netflix, Facebook, and everything else on the Internet into one?); travel; chocolate.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Planning my next vacation, deciding which book on my nightstand to read next, motivating myself to get back to the gym, and new ways to procrastinate (but I'll come back to that one later).
On a typical Friday night I am
Ideally, on a wonderful date with you! More often than not, though, I'm tired at the end of a long week and relax at home with a movie, but I certainly enjoy a quiet evening with friends over a nice meal and/or drinks.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Part of the fun and excitement of getting to know someone is the discovery. I could tell you this stuff right now, but that would eliminate some of the mystery, wouldn't it?
