My self-summary
I am finally updating my profile.

I graduated with my A.S. with a pre-Nursing focus. After three years of trying to make it into a Nursing program with no luck, I am pondering my next move. Nursing would have been great, but there are other options out there. Just have to figure out which one to pursue next.

I'm unemployed thanks to layoffs. Well, technically I'm under-employed as there's no guaranteed schedule for substitute teachers. Sometimes I get two days in a week, but more often I'm happy to get two days a month. So I do a lot of odd jobs to make extra money when I can, and job hunt the rest of the time. I've not had a lot of luck over the last 2 1/2 years, but I stick with my subbing and a few side jobs and stay busy.

I'm busy, yet I still try to make time for friends and relaxation.

I check email often so I can catch up with people I know and am trying to get to know better.

I enjoy being around friends, and I am also perfectly happy being solitary.

I have a sense of humor and I indulge in it often. I make no promises about whether my sense of humor is good or rotten. It seems to vary.

I'm a nice guy, but since my time is often stretched thin people frequently think I've forgotten about them. This bothers me.

I list my body type as a little extra, but I'll easily admit I'm out of shape, which I hate. However, severely injuring one knee and then seriously injuring the other the following year means I've not been able to stay active. I'm trying to get back to being active daily again, but my knees will never be the same, so I have to take recovery slowly. This frustrates me.

I'm a hell of a lot more than these sentences can describe. But this is a start.

I am busy, compassionate, and paradoxical
What I’m doing with my life
Working as a substitute teacher when I can, and working part time in a friend's store. Sadly, my workweek tends to be Friday-Sunday, but such is life. I'm happy to have the job, and I'm still trying to pick up side jobs too. I'm hoping to self-publish my first novel soon, and I'm working on other stories too. We'll see what happens, but it's a fun outlet for me. I enjoy reading and being creative (with writing or projects) plus relaxing when I get the chance, and I generally stay moderately busy. C'est la vie. Often I catch a break and have serious time to relax and do not much with, and those times I spend time with friends and/or making new friends. I enjoy building relationships with people of whatever kind.
I’m really good at
Trying to solve problems. Trying to help my friends when they need help. Much more than this.
The first things people usually notice about me
I dunno. No one seems to tell me what they notice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
How much space do I have here?

A) Books: Current listing of authors/books that changes frequently includes Terry Pratchett, Mark Twain, Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide ended after the third, maybe the fourth book. There is no book five.) Zane Grey and Arthur Conan Doyle. Addendum: James Thurber, Theodore Geisel, Dick Francis, Agatha Christie, Erle Stanley Gardner. Further addendum: Rex Stout, Issac Asimov.

B) Princess Bride, Much Ado About Nothing, Big Trouble in Little China, Thin Man movies, The Pacifier, Titus episodes, Young Ones episodes and Family Guy episodes. Except for the first two in this listing, they change with my moods.

C) Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Bach, Queen, the Sounds, David Bowie, Blondie, Louis Armstrong, and a whole lot more.

D) Chicken is good. Italian is good too. Dieting means more of the first and less of the second though. :-p
Six things I could never do without
My dog was originally number 1, but he died at 16 1/2 years old. :-\ Sometimes I think that I'm pretty much done with pets. Can't replace the best pup ever.

Okay, 6 things, with reasoning:

2) My friends. Should be obvious why. :-)

3) My computer. That makes me twitch sometimes, but it's a great tool for writing stories and keeping in touch. That said, when I go camping and go without the computer, I'm just as happy.

4) Sunlight. I enjoy light way too much. Doesn't matter if it's coming through clouds or being reflected off the moon.

5) A feeling of progress. I want to do and be more and better. Feeling like I'm making progress is a great thing.

6) Some stability amidst the changes. I don't so much mind traversing the seas of eternal changes in life so long as I have something to take my bearings from.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Environmentalism. How much I'd rather be in the mountains than working. Whether or not I should go back to college again, and what to do if I do go back. My future. Occasionally my past. And more often than not my friends.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, then either hanging out with friends at someone's house or relaxing alone. It varies.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Hm. Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue' makes me tear up? Such a magnificent piece of music.

I think armpit hair is disgusting. Therefore I shave my own pits too. I try not to be too hypocritical. :-p
You should message me if
You want to make a friend, have a conversation, or ask me a question. I'm not all that difficult to talk to.
