My self-summary
I am mostly harmless. I try to be kind, and sometimes I succeed. I am several different types of nerd. I like humor, I like words, I like science. And random facts. And anything unusual. Sometimes I talk too much. Sometimes WAY too much. But other times, like when I'm asleep, I hardly talk at all, so hey. I like hugs, a LOT. I like almost all animals, except I'm pickier about humans for some reason.

I enjoy going to Burning Man with my friends - they're really cool humans.

I am, finally, learning to cook things that aren't toast...

I hate stupidity, and evil. I'm not sure which is worse. Either way, I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. Except in my case, god is a flying spaghetti monster. And the altar, if memory serves, had a nice red check tablecloth on it, with a nice glass of the house red.

I'm happily married, but we just moved to Oakland (after about 10 years in SF), and I'm always up for meeting new people, particularly those in my new neighborhood(s). :)

I am bubbly, bodacious, and sassy
What I’m doing with my life
I do computer-related things (you're already bored, so I'll stop at that) because I am a tech-nerd, and because it's a full-time, steady gig. I intend to launch Nos Morituri, and see it rise to become the 233rd-greatest comedy troupe that this world has ever known. Ping me if you're interested in being a founding member.
I’m really good at
solving problems. I can probably fix your computer, too. :)

I'm pretty good with words, too, despite what you see here. I'm not Chekhov (nor even Chekov), but I talk pretty sometimes.

I can tell dirty jokes (I mean really, really, what-is-WRONG-with-that-FREAK filthy jokes) all day, every day. It's like a river of verbal sewage. I can't help it. Your mom taught me.

I can rattle on for hours about totally random things, until I notice that everyone has left, or fallen asleep. It's a public service, I think. Crowd dispersal.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I go by "roach". Yes, like the bug. And/Or the other thing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read a LOT of fiction as a kid, then mostly quit as an adult. I'm still not entirely sure why. I loved the classics, and some classic sci-fi, some graphic novels, and some of more recent, more out-there stuff. But these days it's mostly web pages and non-fiction, articles and essays, and revisiting great old works. But I still sometimes fall deeply in love with a new book, and would love for you to introduce me to my next favorite book.

I still love movies. So much so, that I installed a somewhat obscenely-large (but awesome, okay?) movie screen in my living room. But great movies deserve a proper viewing. In no particular order, off the top of my head, some favorites:
- Pulp Fiction
- Casablanca
- The Usual Suspects
- Blade Runner
- Wings of Desire
- Romeo + Juliet (Baz Luhrmann's take from 1996)
- Punch-Drunk Love
- L.A. Confidential
- Beat the Devil
- Harold and Maude
- El Mariachi
- Chinatown
- Repo Man
- The Big Sleep
- Y Tu Mama Tambien
- Withnail & I
- Big Night
- ....

Music is eclectic. I like shuffle play. I like singer/songwriters. I like blues, jazz, electronic, indie, rock, and some pop music. I like discovering new music. I can't listen to commercial radio, though - it's all KQED, all the time. Or else I'm streaming music online, or one of my own playlists...

Food is also eclectic. I like fancy food, I like street food, I like it raw & cooked, I like it foreign & domestic. I'll try just about anything once. Except balut. I know it's stupid, but I just don't know if I could get it down. :P
Six things I could never do without
- my wife
- my friends
- laughter
- books
- coffee
- the internet :)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
many, many, things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Dinner, movie, friends. Maybe a walk, if the weather's nice. Sometimes a live show, sometimes drinks, but I don't get out like I used too. These old bones...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
... nope, not here. Contradiction. This isn't a private space, so it would no longer be a private thing. But in person, there's not much that I wouldn't admit to.
You should message me if
you can't, in the next ten seconds, come up with at least one good reason NOT too. It's free, isn't it? And risk-free, too. If messaging me turns out, after the fact, to have been the 233rd-biggest mistake of your life, I promise to take the news in stride.
