My self-summary
In the world according to Ryan, everything is a playground.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
― Dr. Seuss

If you're not smiling then you're not doing it right. Especially for the easy things, but especially for the hard things.

Music is the medium through which I explore the universe

The Story of my life

I've done a lot of seemingly random things, like taught music at a nonprofit, coached a High School Wrestling team, wrote a rhyming Children's Book, played music with a few members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and road tripped across the US. But maybe they're not so random.

I believe that creativity is where intelligence and play converge. Let's meet there.
What I’m doing with my life
A few years ago I resolved to help push the world toward the utopia that I envision. I wanted to realize a sustainable future through renewable energy. Knowledge is power, so I worked on new Solar Power tech with a Masters in Nanotechnology from the Univ of Pennsylvania, and in Aug 2017 I finished a PhD in Materials Sci and Eng from the Univ of Florida.

However, along the way my perspective evolved and I distilled my desires. I had focused too much on saving the world and not enough on saving myself. So now that the storm of school has passed, I’m seeking the path that let’s me do both. Well, more than seeking, I’m forging the path.

To put it another way, for years I had a mandolin hanging in my living room. When something made a noise, the mandolin resonated with that noise. It sang along with all the laughter and conversations that filled my home. The resonance was strong, and when I spoke from another room, the mandolin called back. Now, I’m looking for the place that is resonating, the place that is calling back.
I’m really good at
Grabbing a hand-basket at the grocery store when I really need a cart, and being too (insert adjective of your choice here) to switch.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm humming along to the music playing in my head. Or that I'm using my body as a drum. Or using something around me as a drum. Probably not an actual drum.

I'm not a jazz musician but I play one on stage.

Food: Kale and Quinoa find their way into the majority of food I make.
Six things I could never do without
Mental intercourse
The giggles
A few good hours of down dog and standing on my head every week
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Hmm, is that enough Sriracha? No, it probably needs more.

Joining a Barbershop Quartet

What life would be like if I had a handlebar mustache.

Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.
On a typical Friday night I am
That's a silly question
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
For a creature that's still alive, I've done a surprisingly little amount of foraging.
You should message me if
If our laughter is in key.

If you're happy and you know it.

If you're an unstoppable force of nature.

If you want to jam. Let's harmonize!
