My self-summary
I grew up in Indiana, just outside of Chicago. I moved to New York about 7 or 8 years ago when I finished school. I worked in publishing first, then moved on to recording studio jobs, branched out to live sound from there, and now am involved in the more creative side of theatrical sound design. I tour a lot internationally, which has allowed me to see a lot of wonderful places in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia, but it's made it tricky to figure out any kind of regular dating pattern.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as a sound designer, engineer, and composer, mainly for dance pieces. I play a good handful of instruments (guitar, lap steel, banjo, trumpet, etc). I really enjoy traveling, and have structured a lot of my touring life around keeping in touch with a lot of friends who are scattered around the world.
I’m really good at
Finding good movies and museums, laughing, and having a nice time all around!
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm pretty smiley, I hear...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Films: Woody Allen (especially Annie Hall and Stardust Memories), Werner Herzog (Little Dieter Needs to Fly and My Best Fiend), David Lynch, Fellini (La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2 are two favorites), and Kubrick. I'll pretty much always go to the movies!

Books: Vonnegut, Salinger, Carson McCullers, Raymond Carver, Dostoyevsky (especially The Brothers Karamazov), Nabokov, Hunter S. Thompson, Flannery O'Connor, R. Crumb, and Alan Moore.

TV: The Venture Bros, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Simpsons, Kids in the Hall, Flight of the Conchords, South Park, Larry Sanders, Battlestar Galactica, and Arrested Development.

Art: Schiele, Klimt, Otto Dix, Goya, Picasso, Francis Bacon, and Andrew Wyeth.

Music: Pixies, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Nick Cave, Townes Van Zandt, Daniel Johnston, Smoke, Ennio Morricone, Leonard Cohen, Sly and the Family Stone, and Arthur Russell.

I like a whole lot of different things, and I'll give almost anything a shot on the film/music front. I like looking, listening, and enjoying new experiences.
Six things I could never do without
1) Good music
2) Good movies
3) Something to read
4) A little sleep
5) Family
6) Good friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think a lot about how things work, from pieces of music to mechanical devices. I think a lot about music and art. I spent one day really thinking about all the impulses and thoughts and mechanics involved in making my fingers wiggle. I can get just as easily distracted by good shows about robots in space or how lovely it is to see people's shapes again after wintertime's long haul of heavy coats.
On a typical Friday night I am
I love going to the Film Forum and the IFC if I'm down in the Village. Sometimes going to dance pieces or playing some music with friends. I live near Prospect Park, so it's always nice to take a walk around there, too.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I actively play accordian and banjo, but these are very sexy things in my world, so I'm pretty willing to bring them to the foreground!
You should message me if
I'm a pretty friendly person, so just message me if you feel like it. Also, if you feel like going to the movies or catching a show, I'm game!
