My self-summary
Hi. I'm moving back to Montreal like in July or something.

I'm... er, I'm a workaholic slacker? No, really. I love my work but I'm also very laid-back about a lot of other things, and sometimes about my work too. I'm a huge nerd about brains, music, politics and science in general. I like to listen to music, make music, read, walk and work. I laugh at pretty much everything and I arrange my life so that I constantly feel like I'm in a 90's sitcom. It sounds charming but really it's a big problem.
What I’m doing with my life
Working on a PhD in philosophy (focus being neuroscience, cognitive science and evolutionary psychology). Aside from that I do the same thing most grad students do: drink and cultivate personality flaws.

I make music with other people who make music. It's fun.

I am really easy to nerdsnipe. Just bring up any aspect of pop culture and I'll be unable to stop myself from analysing it, even though I'm kind of crappy at it and I just like analysing things with people and treat the latest Marvel movie like a deep commentary on the current Western blockbuster movie landscape. (It really isn't.)

I also enjoy hiking. Walking is fucking rad.
I’m really good at
Making banana bread, making people laugh, eating spicy food, drinking stupid amounts of coffee, shooting myself in the foot, using dated pop culture references that my students will absolutely not get to grade papers.

I'm also really good at arguing, since I argue for a living, sort of.
The first things people usually notice about me
People either notice that I'm super mean or they notice I really enjoy messing with them.

Also my eyes. They're totally dreamy. Really.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Isaac Asimov, Steven Erikson, Stanislaw Lem, Virginia Woolf, Kurt Vonnegut, Edgar Allan Poe, Moby Dick (it's a childhood thing, ask if you're curious), and many more. Just getting into comics a little bit, Preacher being the first series that grabbed me.

Movies: Dead Man, Shaun of the Dead (or anything involving Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright), Clerks (most Kevin smith movies, really), Seven Samurai (Kurosawa in general), most Scorsese movies, Tarantino (because otherwise I'd be a traitor to my generation... or something), weird historical movies, bad movies, good movies.

Shows: Scrubs, Seinfeld, TNG, DS9, ADVENTURE TIME, Archer, NewsRadio, X-Files, The West Wing, Black Books, Numberwang, Monty Python, The Boondocks, Doctor Who, The Daily Show, Louie, Firefly, The Thick of It, Silicon Valley, Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty.

Music: too many things to list them all. I'm a huge music-head and I'll listen to pretty much anything. Here's some huge favourite things:

The Cure, Melvins, Le Tigre, Old 97's, Dead Kennedys, Secret Chiefs 3, Wu-Tang Clan, Melt-Banana, John Zorn, anything Mike Patton does, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Neil Young, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, The Sisters of Mercy, Rick Astley (am *not* kidding), NOMEANSNO, Daft Punk, The Jesus Lizard, Shellac and The Dresden Dolls (I like AFP's solo stuff too, but the Dolls were pretty damn awesome), Timber Timbre, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Agalloch, Meshuggah, Ez-E, early Ice Cube, Company Flow, Run the Jewels...

I like spicy food. And food in general. I'm not a picky eater.
The six things I could never do without
-Embedding phrases within phrases of the same type in a hierarchical structure;
-My computer;
-Music;
-Laughter;
-Work;
-Science.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ways in which other people are wrong, ways in which I'm wrong, getting a raccoon as a pet and calling it DJ Shadow, elaborate pranks, why people so often vote against their interest and crust punk band names.
On a typical Friday night I am
At Milos' with friends or, most likely, working. Yay me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I know Shaun of the Dead by heart.
One of my favourite covers to play at open mics is "Africa" by Toto. Sunglasses at Night is a close second.
You should message me if
You have a D&D group and need a new player (seriously).
You think "octopodes" should be the received plural form of "octopus" (or at least that it shouldn't be "octopi");
You like to argue;
You're wondering who took the bomp;
You want to bring down the patriarchy;
I don't know... you figured I seemed nice.
