"I think there is an obsession in our culture to try and label people as something. There is some urge to define what people are. They want to wrap you up. We really believe that there are certain traits you can't have if you already have others. You can't contradict yourself. You have to be black or white. Nobody wants to live in the grey areas or the very, very colorful areas. But, that's how I want to be. I don't want to put a label on myself, and I don't like it when other people do. On the other hand, it sort of makes me get defensive, which I don't want to be. I want to have this attitude: go ahead and think whatever you want. This is just me. You can figure it out. It's not my job to sell America on who I am. My job is to be in the movies, and I am hopeful that people like my work."
