My self-summary
***life is really stressful/crazy right now, and my head is nowhere near capable of anything approaching a relationship. Not deactivating, but won't be seriously dating for awhile***

am an unabashed, opinionated, total music nerd. It's what I've spent the majority of my free time & money on, and how I've connected with most of my friends (and previous girlfriends)...

am a voracious reader and go to the library once a week to pick up the next hold that's arrived...

used to be a college radio dj (WXYC); currently the calendar editor for

don't ever want to work in politics, but I read, discuss, and analyze the issues and candidates constantly (local, national, international). I love a good debate & believe in a liberal, progressive platform...

have got a great sense of humor (dark), and dry sarcasm does pass my lips every so often (yeah, a bit of a smart-ass)...

love good conversations, especially over whiskey...or coffee... or beer... or my homemade blackberry brandy...

test out as an INTJ/INTP and have no cause to argue the results...

am definitely a romantic at heart...

like to try new recipes (both cooking and baking), excel at quite a few dishes, and can generally be pretty useful around the kitchen (or grill, in the summer)...

keep (restaurant) kosher, so i can be as finicky as a vegetarian, but also occasionally crave a burger from red mill...

am always up for bowling (r.i.p. Sunset), pinball, tennis, bike rides, exploring the city, drinking, or anything music-related...

enjoy exploring the city, road-tripping around the area, and want to travel more...

make an exceptional old fashioned (yay bourbon! tequila! rum!) & enjoy messing around with recipes for new cocktails...

am generally a happy person & meeting someone new makes things all the better...

still don't know what i want to do with my life, but I'm enjoying trying to figure it out.
What I’m doing with my life
reading a lot, hanging out with friends, going to shows, petting the cats, going to bar trivia around town, collecting comic books, editing the TIG music calendar, purchasing more small-batch bourbon, cooking up a tasty meal (and grilling as much as the weather will allow), checking out various happy hours around town, going to the Wallingford or Ballard farmers markets, trying new beer at Bottleworks/Burgundian, hanging out with my awesome little niece

I like playing tennis in the summer, and have yet to find a winter activity equally enjoyable and as healthy

Keeping the beard trimmed also seems to take up a bit of time each week ;)

I despise karaoke.

Naps are really awesome.

* Getting into tennis league for the next seven months, and gearing up for a spring bowling league
* Playing my stack of vinyl from Record Store Day, and counting down the days until the next one
* Figuring out weekend getaways
* Considering Summer recipes
* Enjoying the 3 quarts of blackberry brandy and 1.5 quarts of peach brandy I canned back in August
* Messing around with my Fuji X100S
* Urban hiking, wild blackberry picking, & reading in parks along the way
*Trying to obtain tickets to The Moth StorySLAM
I’m really good at
recommending new bands, 90's trivial pursuit, bowling, listening (so I've been told), adhering to the cats' demands, making blueberry-chocolate chip pancakes, being a gentleman... and other private things which would be ungentlemanly to list here ;)
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm guessing the beard, but what say you?

My best friend wanted me to point out that I like stuff, and also things.

Six things I could never do without
my cats*, my music collection (thousands of LP's and cd's, and countless digital tracks), a good book, quiet time, weekend wandering

*My older cat recently passed, shortly after turning 17, so I've found I can keep living even if a little less happier than before
I spend a lot of time thinking about
music, sex, politics, religion... the usual

Proper grammar & spelling. It really does pain me to have to look at anything poorly written... Vampire Weekend is very wrong :P

they're/their/there (I own a t-shirt with this theme)

it's/its, you're/your, and who's/whose

You don't have to know the Chicago Manual of Style by heart (though that would definitely set *my* heart aflutter); it's about not being lazy and make sure your thoughts are understood.
On a typical Friday night I am
going out to check out a band, hanging out with friends (trying a new restaurant, dive bars, pinball, at a good cocktail bar), sketch comedy show, theater; whatever strikes my mood

This also includes occasionally staying at home, sipping on a hot toddy, and enjoying a good book or movie (for Saturdays, the latest Doctor Who)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
You should message me if
You're intrigued by any of the preceding, but want to know more

You want to join me for shows (especially indie rock or electronica). That would be awesome, as few things are more boring than standing by myself between bands

You appreciate the quiet time in-between the adventures

You understand that initially my strongest bond will be developed with your cat

You are interested in a mini road trip around the region, especially day trips

You want a partner in your troublemaking endeavors

You want to snuggle on the couch with blackberry brandy, hot toddies, and a few good books, maybe some Netflix

You feel like it :)

You understand that due to some physical limitations I'm not able to be out hiking/climbing/mountaineering every weekend. I love being in the outdoors, and I'll still at least look like the part of a grizzled mountain man ;)

You also eventually want to delete this profile because you've found someone (on this site or not) who made this whole endeavor worthwhile
