My self-summary
One part southern belle, two parts urban sophisticate. Smart, curious and playful (to the point of goofy sometimes). Independent, creative and a little complicated. Intrigued by people and things that are unconventional, off-beat, irreverent and absurd. I value the (mostly lost) art of conversation and gravitate towards people who are open-minded and curious about the world around them (but don't take themselves too seriously).

What do I want? Real estate (jk, but points if you get the reference). If you are intelligent, quick-witted, open and genuine, that would be a great start - but really, there is no recipe, resume or profile for chemistry and compatibility - you know it when it happens. Ideally you have some things that you are passionate about. Hopefully you have a creative side and love music. Mostly, I want to be with someone who is interesting, interested in the world around them, and will laugh with me on a regular basis (but is not bothered my apparently excessive use of parenthetical phrases :). Simple, right?
What I’m doing with my life
Starting a new business in a field I love. Trying to walk the fine line between chaos and exhilaration. Not taking myself too seriously. Traveling as much as I can. Trying to live with no regrets.
I’m really good at
Making people feel at ease
Laughing, and making you laugh
Connecting the dots
Remembering random song lyrics
Word games
Sailing (and the associated knot-tying)
Navigating - on land, at sea, sticky situations
Traveling - enjoy traveling alone but am also a great travel companion - just don't expect me to read the guidebook or stick to an itinerary. I will always strike up a conversation with the bartender or wander down a side street in search of what's unique and interesting.
The first things people usually notice about me
my smile, or if I'm laughing, my laugh (because it can be loud, so consider yourself warned)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Oh this could be a really long section...for the sake of brevity will only mention what's current..

Music: lately finding I am partial to singer/songwriters like The National, Avett Brothers, Black Prairie, Wake Owl, The Tallest Man on Earth, Lord Huron, Andrew Bird, First Aid Kit (how does no one know them?), Allo Darlin. But I like a wide range of stuff, such as Vampire Weekend, Strokes, Vaccines, Grouplove, Calexico, The Last Royals, Jack White. However this list will be outdated within 5 minutes of writing :) I like to keep discovering new stuff. I believe Spotify is the greatest invention of our time. Absolutely no hyperbole there.

Books: read quite a bit, usually several things at a time, lately have been sampling biographies because I'm fascinated by real people and how they live(d) their lives. Suggestions welcome.

Movies: I like a good story, well told, the kind of film that afterwards you can talk about for hours. Kinda partial to independent film & docs. Some all time favorites: Almost Famous, An Education, You Can Count on Me, The Cooler, High Fidelity, American Beauty, Best in Show, Memento, Amour, Inglorious Bastards, Inception, Hurt Locker, The Social Network.

Other stuff: NPR, KEXP, KCRW, NYT, Daily Show

Food: Not a picky eater, appreciate the good stuff and I'll try most things (with a few notable exceptions that you'll have to find out when we meet). And if you know a good tex-mex place, I'm all in.
Six things I could never do without
- curiosity & learning
- messing about in boats
- passport & open itinerary
- the company of family and good friends
- ability to laugh & something to laugh about
- spotify (seriously, it's that good)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The business I'm trying to get off the ground. Why American politics is broken & how to fix it. The most efficient way to get from point A to point B. My mom & how to make sure she is well cared for. Wind speed & direction (a seasonal preoccupation). What makes for a really good song. My place in the world. Where I want to travel next.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
In the Similar Users column, I always click on the profile that says "more adventurous".
You should message me if
you're smart, funny, into whatever it is you do, playful but real, reliable but not predictable...if you can laugh at yourself (and make me laugh too)...if you want someone who is sane and stable but not afraid to mix things up...if you're interested in actually meeting vs. endless cyber exchange..and if you're interesting. PLEASE, please be interesting. oh and tall wouldn't hurt either :)
