My self-summary
I started working very early and ended up dropping out of high school, traveling and working, now I'm a reasonably talented chef. My family worked their way up too, recovering from having three little babies so young. I've been reading / do read a lot. Books matter a great deal to me. They seem to care a lot. In a different universe, wherein my inner life is healthier, I'd love to write novellas and essays. But I'm in this universe, so I'll watch movies and cook my food. And write tiny little books that I'll never tell anyone about because I'll hide them in my pockets.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I'm a kitchen manager at a nice Italian restaurant. I'm writing fiction, in a fumbling manner. Sometimes in my free time I write essays about films or essays I watched or have read. I don't sleep much. I make a lot of jokes.
I’m really good at
Cooking food. I wish that wasn't the lead answer to every question but really I don't much mind it being the lead answer, I've been doing it for ten years.
The first things people usually notice about me
I laugh to myself a lot. I have to really like you to let you in on the joke.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: hamsun, isaac babel, lowry, mauriac, Anne carson, celine, (lydia) davis, jelinek, kawabata, de assis, flannery o'connor, Robert Walser might be my favorite writer (maybe hamsun). I read a lot, if you think of something you really like but don't eee, ask me. If it was written before 1960, maybe I've read it.

movies: pt anderson, Polanski, keaton, pixar, schwarzenegger, bad lieutenant: pocno, resnais, rohmer, De palma, svankmajer, trnka,... I try to watch a movie every day that I'm alive. If you'd ever want to spend forever watching movies and talking about them I'll do it with you.

I tend to like books and movies that make emotional logic. I'm not overly concerned with rationality and plot, and I tend to avoid works very concerned with their own awareness or authorial voice.

music: pavement, the microphones, built to spill, guided by voices, dirty 3, RZA, nina nastasia, black heart procession, radar bros., lightning bolt, aphex twin, camera obscura (the indie pop one), boards of canada, LCD, Olivia tremor control might be my favorite band. Neutral milk, hit chip, Neil young, Leonard Cohen, fennesz, Jim o'rourke, murs, mad lib, el-p, Kool Keith.

food: well, I cook for a living, so everyday I have access to anything I could want, so usually I eat grilled cheese sandwiches, or just bread or something. I'd rather cook for you than cook for me. I really do love cooking.
Six things I could never do without
Just reading, i think. I reckon I've done without everything at one point or another, though maybe I've always been reading.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The nature of relationships. People. Jokes. I'm writing a fiction thing about interpretation and desire.
On a typical Friday night I am
working, at least up until midnight. After that? Helping my house across the street, or painting old ladies red.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've been engaged twice.
You should message me if
I'd like it if you were ambitious.
