My self-summary
After having been an “eternal student” in the Humanities between Tours, Paris, Amsterdam and Berkeley, I decided to (finally!) quit the academic world (but maybe not for ever) and to try a new path as a teacher of French overseas…I really like to live abroad, to discover new things, to be surprised…and I like to teach…so I wanted to give it a go…

After having taught in beautiful Indonesia (2014) and Vietnam (2015) I am now in Shanghai (since September), teaching at a university here. For how long… I don’t know yet…
So far my job has been interesting, if not challenging, but I’m still missing the quality of life (the warmth, the blue sky and golden sun) and the “craziness” of south-east Asia. Missing the easy access to unspoiled nature too!

I’m doing a lot of b&w photography in my spare time and even try some alternative and ancient processes, which is very,...very time consuming. Whish I could begin to sell some of my stuff...but it does not seem to be going that way...

Do some sports too: climbing, swimming, running, badminton, mountain biking (difficult to do without...God bless endorphin!), and more recently scuba diving (amaizing!, I'm so happy I was lucky enough to get to try it). I want to do a lot more.

I’m rather a calm and discreet kind of person I guess. I’m a rather good company to hang out with, quite funny and nice. It takes me some time to get very comfortable with people but after I’m trustfully. I’d rather make some few very good friends than a lot of acquaintances I’d never get to really know.

I am reserved, sarcastic, and why not?
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching French abroad the best way I can…even though I’m not sure to be fully successful…but I try!
Trying to discover new countries, cultures, people, sceneries…trying to make the best of each day and to be happy with “little things"
Trying to stay close to my family and to my childhood friends…even if time passes so very fast…
I’m really good at
At not enough things I’m afraid, but I’m trying to improve
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes I guess, when I stay silent, and my accent in English for sure as soon as I open my mouth...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
In American/English Litt, I really enjoyed all Bret Easton Ellis’ books as well as James Ellroy’s. Now I’m trying some other genres. I recently discovered Jay McInerney and Cormac McCarty (Blood Meridian is insane...so very good and disturbing...). Conrad's Hearth of Darkness is a recent strong experience.
Would like to get into some more "heavy" or "deep" stuff like Meville or Joyce...but man, it's still too hard for me...
French Litt, mostly “classical” XIXème century stuff: Rimbaud, Verlaine, Baudelaire, Balzac, Zola, Dumas and so on. When it comes to XX French litt, I totally bet on Michel Houellebecq.

Movies? Or Films? When it comes to Films I like a lot but I’m just gonna cite here a few directors i used to work on: Theo Angelopoulos, Béla Tarr, Sharunas Bartas, Alexander Sokurov, Zhang Ke Jia, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Tarkovsky, Antonioni.
I like movies too: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Fight Club, Into the Wild, Point Break, Alien’s series, The City of Lost Children etc, and TV Shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Freaks and Geeks, The Office, The Wire, Peep Show, Breaking Bad, True Detective, An Idiot Abroad, Broad City, Fargo, Louie.

Music: I listen to a lot of different things but not too much of reggae or techno. By now, a lot of Andrew Bird, The Decemberists, The Dutchess and the Duke, Herman Düne, Ana Tijoux, Richie Havens, Joplin, 16 Horsepower, Bowie, Elliott Smith, F John Misty, H Nilsson, Kris Kristofferson, Notorious Big, Sixto Rodrigez, Sonic Youth, The Velvet Underground...and I usualy don't mind "corny" stuff
Classical music, but as a novice who does not really understand it.
Some french stuff too: Les Cowboys Fringant, NTM, Assassin, TTC, L'Atelier, Booba, Le Klub des Loosers
Radio shows: i am really crazzy about the Ricky Gervais radio shows and podcasts.

When it comes to food I’m really not difficult and enjoy like, “everything” I would say.
The six things I could never do without
In a non hierarchical order, lets say: friends, still and moving images, music and sounds, sceneries, travels, books
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How empty my brain is...
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends at home or out, hitting the books if needed, playing tennis, climbing, drinking tea and reading a novel, going to the movies, printing in the darkroom,…oh my…why is there only one Friday night per week…
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
No way, not here
You should message me if
You feel like hanging out, doing activities, show me some nice/interesting places in the city or in the country side, want to speak in English or in French.
