My self-summary
Dad is a mad scientist. Mom is a sex ed teacher. I am full of questions.

I'm a science and computer nerd, and I am prone to extended Wikipedia adventures. I can't remember people's names, but I can remember facts about their families, or what they were wearing when we met.

I do not want to talk about football, baseball, or basketball. Ever. Like what you like ... watch what you watch ... but please do not ask me to participate. I would much rather go to a museum or the ballet than to a sporting event. Combat sports are the exception. It's like ballet, but with blood ... which is awesome.

I like being outdoors and around nature, but I have very little interest to "go on a hike" that has no purpose other than the hike itself.

If I had a garage, my cars would still be parked outside because the garage would be filled with tools and machines.

I love my father, but for some reason I am rarely able to tell him. His garage is filled with tools and machines.

I asked my friend Heidi to render a “brutally honest 3-4 sentence description of me.” I clearly specified 3-4 sentences. This is what she returned:

"Amusing, intelligent, hard-working, and unique are just a few words I'd use to describe Steve.

No matter if he's in the worst mood ever, Steve always is up for a laugh. He enjoys sarcastic humor, as well as other with a good, quick wit. He and his friends are a fun bunch, always chuckling or joking around, and his laugh is a hearty, happy one. Whenever I have a question, Steve is one of my go-to-people. Whether it be about computers, food, or polar bears, I can count on Steve to offer up a lively conversation about any topic. If he doesn't know the answer to something, he doesn't hesitate for a second to find out more about it. (Sometimes, I have to admit, when I want to know more about something, but don't have the time to research it, I often say, "Gee, Steve, tell me more about ....." to which he says, "Let me get back to you." The next weekend over drinks, I'll be schooled, happily. As a colleague, we can count on Steve do help us out in a heartbeat. When a computer is acting up or you can't find an important file, he's the first one to call. The best part is, he always answers his phone, even if he knows you'll be asking him a favor. Again. He's just that kind of helpful, hardworking guy. The most descriptive word for Steve, however, is unique. He enjoys the things he enjoys and isn't afraid to talk about it. Want to play an obscure board game? Call him. Want to watch Ladies Arm Wrestling at the Blue Moon Diner? Call him. Want to start up a random project? Call him. Want to grab a cup of coffee and talk about music? Call Steve. He's one of my favorite people in the world, honestly."

She’s being nice.

What I’m doing with my life
Working in the IT department of a private school(I quit! Fuck that place!), going back to school, prototyping various hobbies on the side, trying to learn new languages by myself, playing board games with my married friends, research, welding, and attending comedy or music shows when my schedule permits.
I’m really good at
Inappropriate jokes, doing things by myself, making my father laugh, eccentric behavior, singing in the shower, talking to myself, watching ASMR videos, clubbing (not really), drinking water, learning new technologies, and Oxford commas.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I seem quiet. When I meet new people I stand back and listen, gathering information, rather than driving the group conversation.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Comedy, Science Fiction, Fantasy, History, and Technical Data.

- Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI. The real ones, not that re-released CGI horseshit. HAN SHOT FIRST!
- Documentaries, independent films, and the occasional art film.
- Foreign films with subtitles.
- Extremely low budget horror films count as "comedy."

I don't watch much broadcast television, but Netflix has granted me access to some really good shows like "Game of Thrones," "The Walking Dead," "Boardwalk Empire," "New Girl," "The League," "Louie," and "Modern Family." I had a pre-existing fondness for "Firefly," "News Radio," "Band of Brothers," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "Sports Night," "FLCL," "Samurai Champloo," and "The Joy of Painting." My childhood is filled with happy, little trees. I also watch "Hoarders" while I clean my house. It helps.

Metal, Ska, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Swing, and women who play piano.

I have become a podcast junkie over the last few years.

I eat Paleo/Primal. This will not change. (Grilled cheese sandwiches on special occasions.) Bacon makes anything better. I put heavy cream in my scrambled eggs to make them fluffy. Dry, white wines and dark, hoppy beer.

And scotch. Can't forget the scotch.
Six things I could never do without
*Excluding the obvious, like food/water/shelter/knife/fire, and such*

1.) Coffee or tea.
2.) Fountain pens.
3.) Open Source software.
4.) Poker chips.
5.) Adequate personal transportation.
6.) Comfortable underwear.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The state of the world and my country, and the impending economic and social apocalypse for which I'm entirely prepared.

The best way to quench and then temper steel.

Where the other nerds in my area may be hiding.

How to obtain more free time.

Different career options.

Which meats go best with spinach.

Frictionless mag-lev lift-and-drag vertical axis wind turbines that generate current through direct induction rather than by turning an alternator.
On a typical Friday night I am
At the Blue Moon Diner, fishing for inspiration to guide the rest of my night. Or ... at home, trying to make progress on my hobbies and side projects.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Gossip Girl is a much better show than it should be.

Have a couple drinks with me, and I'll tell you anything you want to know. No topic is taboo.
You should message me if
... you want someone different in your life. I am not like other people.
