My self-summary
I'm originally from Seattle, WA, and after graduating with a B.A. in General Chemistry, I wanted to start to see the rest of the country, if not the world. So about four years ago I moved to Boston.

I like to think I'm a pretty fun person. I love to make jokes, and tell stories... I'm pretty sure I'll make a good old person! I enjoy playing tennis, basketball, one of the biggest sports fans you'll find, reading, writing, journaling, poetry (if those are all different somehow), hiking, learning new things is it's own addiction (seriously wikipedia is a bad invention for me!) and photography.

I'm a bit of dooffus, but if anything I know I'm a good person... so there's that!
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a super passionate High School teacher at a school down in Dorchester. What this means is that teaching is usually somewhere in my headspace, and though my work day officially ends at 5pm, my cup doth spillith over on a regular bases. What can I say, I love my kids, I love my job!.. and the growth and introspection that it allows me.

When I'm not teaching or doing teacher things, I'm either working with a Youth Program here in the city... or exploring this amazing city. I enjoy photography too, so that's a pretty good way to do that. I almost always have a camera on me of some sort. Though teaching takes up a fair amount of my life, being able to make time for those that are important is time that I cherish deeply... especially in times spent with others.
I’m really good at
I'm not really good at too many things. I'm one of those people that is pretty average at everything he does. I try really hard though, and always enjoy doing it! And even though I may believe I am only 'average,' somehow I seem to have a knack for impressing others (so maybe I don't give myself enough credit). Though that might seem bad to some people, I like to think that it means that I don't completely suck at anything either.

I'm pretty dedicated to being optimistic. I have my moment of brooding (privately) when appropriate, but it doesn't last long, and usually re-affirms my outlook. I have learned that it does take effort to be that way, I think... so long as you also take a realistic approach to it.

People always tell me that I'm a pretty calming presence, or that I handle stress really well. Just like optimism takes effort, I think this does (or maybe they go hand-in-hand). Probably also why I'm told I'm a good listener, and problem solver...
The first things people usually notice about me
A lot of people try and guess what I'm mixed with... besides black I mean.

Some people notice that I have purple colors all throughout my left eye. It's actually really funny when people notice it, how their mannerisms change in that moment... haha! Some people actually show concern for me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Book(s): Joy Luck Club, All the Things I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten... Both books changed my life! I read them both every year. I think I just love books that teach me lessons, help me appreciate things in my own life, or remind me to.

Movies: Joy Luck Club (if I decide to watch it, instead of read the book for that year. A truly amazing movie! One of the few times where the movie is better than the book)...
Chick-flick: I appreciate the genre, Serendipity + AWTR (if I happen to watch Definitely, Maybe this changes... vice-versa)... No Nicholas Sparks!!! (I seriously think he makes movies because he hates me, exception: Walk to Remember... but yet I still watch them.)
Action: The Rock (if people remember that old N. Cage movie)
Big Big Big comic book fan. I like to get my nerd on when possible.
I like too many movies.

Shows: Gilmore Girls, ER!!, Everwood, Parenthood, Naomily (just them, I don't really care for the other characters... oh, and Katie Fitch), Modern Family, The Office, Friday Night Lights, Grey's, Switched at Birth (for the ASL), Bones, Revenge, Vampire Diaries (I know), Happy Endings, Boy/Girl Meets World. Lizzie Bennet is the best adaptation!! Orphan Black. My sister says that I need to start confessing to liking Lost Girl... Favorite current show: iZombie!!

I watch a lot of TV shows. I really love the references in them. It helps feed my learning/wikipedia addiction. No reality TV (except Project Runway and Top Chef are competitions to me)! I once fantasized that I'd write an episode of something one day.

Music: Hip Hop, OldSchool (Motown variety). Common, Wale, Mos Def, Kanye, Jay Z, Arrested Development (the hip/hop group, not the show), Mase, Black Eyed Peas (pre-Elephunk), B.O.B., The Temptations!!, Sam Cooke, Sinatra, David Ruffin, EarthWindFire, BoyzIIMen, A Fine Frenzy, The National, Glen Hansard, Linkin Park, Paramore, Florence + Machine, Susie Suh, Justin Hines, etc. Ed Sheeran has been one of my favorite discoveries of 2012. It makes me really happy Kharmically that Tori Kelly is famous now! I will say that I usually like less than 50% of the songs on VH1 Countdown at any time. I'm into just about any form of music. Weird things too, like Celtic, bollywood, clog dancing, etc).

Two genres that I haven't been exposed to, and would love to get more of is: Country and Classic Rock.

Food: Love all kinds of food... But I love Cereal, stuff is like candy, but good for you. 3 things I hate to eat: Avocados, Oysters, mushrooms.
The six things I could never do without
1. Music: saved my life a few times over
2. Laptop: I really do feel like I'm strapped to this thing sometimes... sad I know
3. Laughter: I think that's where my optimism and enjoyment comes from. It's a very versatile ally.
4. Family: Which actually makes living all the way on the other side a bit difficult at times, especially during the holidays
5. My Right Hand: Seriously, my left-hand is super useless.
6. Internet: This really does facilitate my nerd cravings... and it keeps informed of all of the new science and political news.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot of time thinking about things in the world. I'm one of those people who looks at issues and tries to figure out where exactly I stand on that particular issue. An actual debate usually follows. I always imagine that the fly on my wall must think I'm a bit crazy. I swear it's only when I'm by myself... it's how my thoughts work themselves out the best though! I really do enjoy thinking about things.
On a typical Friday night I am
You can usually find me in my house somewhere catching up on Pop-TV culture of some kind, or surfing the internet for random things that I'm sure is unimportant to other people. I seriously do spend too much time on this.

Although not really different than most people, but I don't really go to social places by myself (bars, clubs, etc). With that being said I do try and find one cool place/thing to go/do each week. I'm open to doing just about anything though, and love painting the town (preferably purple, if you got it!). I'm pretty easy to amuse... especially if I'm with someone.

Most recently, this summer, I've started putting together a youtube channel... mostly to keep my family/friends updated back home:

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm not really secretive about things in my life. I kind of live by the "Ask me a question, I'll tell you no lies" kind of thing. If you hit a topic that I'm not comfortable with I'll tell you that I'm uncomfortable... ask again, I'll usually tell you anyways. My life isn't that secretive, plus I'd like to think there isn't a detail of my life I'm not proud of, or something that I couldn't explain in a way that makes me sound like a sane person, at least.

I guess I should actually put something 'private' here...

My favorite Color is Purple!!!! I do think males who like purple have a unique 'bond' with their color, that's different than other people's.

My favorite animal is a Manatee.
You should message me if
Bravo if you got this far... haha (sadly, the rambling won't end)

So since moving to Boston I haven't really gotten to experience much of the city or meet many people. I would love to spend some time doing both, maybe even find someone special in the process... and doing anything with someone is always a plus! ... so send me a message.

I also can't see the 'likes'... so take the plunge, and send a message instead!
