My self-summary
Happy 2017 - I'm resisting the urge to put air quotes around 'happy' given everything that's been going on in the world the last, oh, twelve months or so. Despite the low points in 2016, and there were many, there were good things too. A couple of friends of mine had babies, a friend who's been sick is doing better, I still have a job I love most I'm choosing to move forward with cautious optimism. I know there's still a bumpy road ahead, but I also think that humanity is due something epically, transformatively good. I'm sticking around for that.

What else...I'm a left-wing, sarcastic smart-ass with a kind heart and a long fuse. I know myself fairly well - superpowers, weird bits and all - and don't believe in pretending to be otherwise. I'm good to have around in a real crisis, but also at times when the crisis seems to be that we've run out of wine.

Looking to eventually find a partner but taking my time, cause I think love is the easy and respect are harder but make the rest possible. So I'll happily go on living my life til I, hopefully, find what I want - a guy whose superpowers and weird bits complement mine...

It should (but sadly, doesn't) go with out saying that I don't want to spend my days with someone who is racist, homophobic, fundamentalist, etc. You guys should check out 'Ok Ass Hat' maybe.
What I’m doing with my life
- listening to people's stories - I love to know where you're from and how you got that little scar on your forehead and why your grandfather was the greatest guy ever.
- wishing I'd known that, once I chose my OKC nickname in a moment of impulsive smartassery, I'd be stuck with it for all eternity. Sigh.
- working for a great non-profit with people I love, who do great things for others
- meditating, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot
- choir! choir! choir!
- learning the guitar
- at the moment wishing I played the guitar well enough that I could say I play badly
- wishing I had a dog. A lot.
- throwing stuff out
- swimming, being on/in/near water whenever possible
- trying to be a good aunt to the fabulous kidlets in my life
- did I mention choir! choir! choir!?
I’m really good at
See above list - I don't want to brag, but I'm really quite good at sucking at the guitar. Plus, I've been told I'm an above average kisser, and I make pecan toffee that will curl your toes.

I've also recently started doing career transition counselling - career therapy, really - for people who want to make a change or just feel stuck. It's a pretty intuitive process, partly cause I've had some really horrible work experiences, leading up to a career I love. I deeply, passionately believe that everyone deserves to feel good about what they do when Monday morning rolls around...
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably not the first thing, but several people have told me recently that I make friends easily. I've never really thought about it, but given the family of friends that surrounds me, I'm taking it as a damn fine compliment.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Lots and lots and lots. Some of the same stuff you like. Some you don't. I was trying to avoid being all list-y, but here are some random samples...Fall on Your Knees, Good Night and Good Luck, paneer, Joni Mitchell, good tequila, A Fine Balance, watermelon and cherries in the summer, Chuck Palahniuk, The Newsroom, plus The West Wing, Charlie Wilson's War and anything Aaron Sorkiny. Ditto Joss Whedon. Popcorn. Miles and Ella and Nina. Cocktails with gin and cucumbers. Homeland. Bubbly. The smell of garlic and rosemary on my hands after I've been chopping them together. Any meal eaten near a wood burning fire on a cold day, accompanied by red wine and making out.

There. So much for not being list-y.
The six things I could never do without
Strong tea in the morning
A good bed
A good shower
Physical contact
Six more things
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What's next. Great love. Big, hairy life questions. Sex. Really great kisses. Silence. Vegans - vegetarianism I understand, but a life without cheese just mystifies me. Scary, batshit crazy politicians...and lately, an unfamiliar, post-election feeling of hope. Where I put my metropass.
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm pretty damn strong and used to doing things for myself, and happy to be independent . But sometimes I really miss having a partner to lean on and share things with. Not earth-shattering, I know, but still kinda hard to admit sometimes.
You should message me if
you're a good guy. Or I've got some spinach stuck in my teeth.
