My self-summary
My name isn't Rowlf. It's a Muppet thing.

I'm currently fostering a Jack Russell Terrier with anxiety and a bum leg, who is cute but shy around new people. This is at least 50% the opposite of me.

Recently bought a house in Grant Park (#adulting.) Surprised and delighted at the number of double-entendre-laden product names one can find at Lowe's.

I make kickass brownies. Fudgy, not cakey. Cakey is bullshit. Play your cards right and I'll make you some. The game is Crazy Eights.

Inspired by Jim Henson, Groucho Marx, Amy Poehler, Laci Green, Francesca Ramsey and Alton Brown.

I'm in search of people to get coffee with during the day.

In an open relationship. Also looking for friends who can cook so I can start having fun dinner parties again.

Feminist ally. Queer-adjacent. #BLM
What I’m doing with my life
Jack off all trades.

I make websites for small organizations, because restaurant and B&B websites are the worst with their flash intros, music playing and nonsense. I also have a semi-active freelance biz aimed at creating online audio and video telling the stories behind how things came to be.

I used to work for record labels, while that was still a viable thing. Scored my share of free CDs and stories about hanging out with artists. Friends with Lil Jon on Facebook.

When it's nice out, I take my fancy (#teamCanon) DSLR out and take pictures of whatever happens to catch my eye.

Attempting to stay on the right side of the war between getting into better shape (thanks, FitBit, for pushing me to take walks. Update: FitBit irritated my skin so now I need another gadget.) and perfecting my baking skills. Want some cookies? Please take some cookies. Please.
I’m really good at
Confounding expectations, apparently.

Recommending music, being curious rather than judgmental, combining flavors to make awesome iced tea, making really bad puns (sorry-not-sorry in advance). Snuggling with hair-pulling.

I play a bunch of instruments with varying degrees of skill, and was an DJ of 80's music in New York for a bunch of years.

Causing you to wonder whether sentences in "What am I doing with my life" contain typos or not.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorites are hard. Here are some lists of things I think are awesome.

Books. Currently reading "Perfecting Sound Forever: An Aural History of Recorded Music" and "Eat the City: A Tale of the Fishers, Foragers, Butchers, Farmers, Poultry Minders, Sugar Refiners, Cane Cutters, Beekeepers, Winemakers, and Brewers Who Built New York". On the fiction side, I dig magical realism such as Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Matt Ruff and such. More on my GoodReads profile, of course.

Movies. My all-time favorite movie (at the moment) is Almost Famous. It frequently switches off with Empire Records. I love all things Muppet (mostly from when Jim/Jerry were still alive), and documentaries about food. Feel free to make me watch them, though I've already seen Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

Music. says my most played artists are Crowded House, Apparat, The Weepies, A Tribe Called Quest and David Bowie (I still can't bring myself to listen to ★). I suppose that's a start. (softlord is my name on there if you're curious for more). If you have bands on your list that I haven't heard, I will listen and I will message you about them. It's pretty rare that it happens, though. :)

Podcasts. Harmontown, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Tara Brach, Scriptnotes.

TV Shows. Former recovering TV nerd now mostly relying on DVDs and Netflix streaming. WB teen dramas, Britcoms, The West Wing, 3-2-1 Contact, NewsRadio, Better Off Ted, . Those pretty much sum me up. Currently: Finally gave up on GoT, Parks and Recreation, Broad City, @midnight, Kroll Show (RIP). I don't have cable, so some of those are consumed elsewise.

Food. Sushi, Thai food, Golden Grahams, dark chocolate (milk chocolate is BS. Seriously, what is that stuff?), homemade baked ziti when the cheese is a little burned so it has a crispy crunchy shell on it, paper-thin slices of prosciutto, chewy oatmeal cookies.
The six things I could never do without
- Curiosity
- Peachy Oolong Tea (Find me on Steepster.)
- Hugs (I am an awesome hugger.)
- The half-second before a first kiss
- Slow deep breaths
- Wordplay.
-"My name is Toby Ziegler,I work at the White House"
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How and why "sarcastic" became a selling point when "silly" is a thing.

Low-hanging double entendre. I can't help it, it's a compulsion.
On a typical Friday night I am
Cooking dinner (I have a grill now!), sitting on the deck until the mosquitoes make their presence known. I'm boring on Fridays. You should see me on Tuesdays, though.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Sometimes I like to be the little spoon. Don't tell anyone.

Also, I don't like Cards Against Humanity.
You should message me if
If the statement "friendships don't have to be platonic" (cribbed from the profile of timeflieslike, who I don't know) resonates with you.

As I said upthread, I'm in an open relationship with the amazing alamo_basement. I consider non-exclusivity to be a feature of my relationship, rather than a core character trait of my being (i.e. I try not to be obnoxious about it).

YAY: If you like to cook and be cooked for. If you have your shit together enough to know that nobody really has their shit together (big bonus points for people in therapy). If you enjoy long meandering conversations over caffeinated beverages at a shop where the staff knows our names and default orders. If you're interested in making a new friend/coffee buddy/flirting and makeout partner.

BOO: If you put "if I told you, it wouldn't be private" in the "The most private thing I'm willing to admit here." field or complain about the length of the "about me" section. Come on now.

I don't do hookups.
