My self-summary
Thoughtful universalist; recovering communist; student of engineering working in education; bearing the mind of a writer; constantly deciding between coffee, naps and coffee-naps.
What I’m doing with my life
This year I'll be directing the creation of a science center at a community college. It's geared towards motivating underprivileged youth to enter the STEM fields and exit successfully. I'm also taking classes at UIC in preparation for a Master's in Power Engineering with a focus on renewable energy production.
I’m really good at
... meaningful conversation

... math, science, political-economy, philosophy and music adventures
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies: Any tragic comedy

Music: I enjoy most genres with meaningful lyrics (e.g. indie, classical, punk, metal, jazz, ska/rocksteady, blues, folk, bluegrass) but currently these are on heavy rotation:
-New, weird pUnk: Chastity Belt, Viet Cong, Bleached, Heavy Times, Parquet Courts
-Old Punk: Total Chaos, Oxymoron, Minor Threat, Operation Ivy
-Traditional Ska: The Slackers, The Skatalites, Don Drummond
-Bands with Animals in the Name: Andrew Bird, Tame Impala, Grizzly Bear, Modest Mouse, Deer Tick
-Indie: Beirut, Astronauts (the new band), Wye Oak

-Collapse: How Societies Choose to Succeed or Fail
-The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Help Determine Human Values

-Last Week Tonight, Adam Ruins Everything, Daily Show, Louis CK, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Vikings
-Rick and Morty (youtube: Rick and Morty You Pass Butter)
-Fez and Portal 2
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Science, technology, the multiverse, civilizations, evolution, how humanity will be remembered far into the future, information, social justice and naps.
On a typical Friday night I am
Reading, studying, coding, out for dinner or at a show (indie, punk, metal, jazz, blues, ska)
