My self-summary
Hi there, I'm Charlie. I'm easy going, fun loving. I love to be around people, especially my friends but I always like to meet new people and try new things. Well that's the tag-line but it doesn't say much really does it? So I guess I best continue....

[EDIT] Feel free to message me if you would like a debate on long vs short profiles? This one got out of hand I think. Should I re-write it? I did at least add new pics![/EDIT]

I should start by saying I don't actually live in Exeter, I live in a small village on Dartmoor. Which is near enough to Exeter. But as a lot of people won't know it - I went with "Exeter". Thankfully though I have a car, and as the old saying goes: have car, will travel. Or something.

This is a looong profile, but bear with me if you can. Hopefully it will tell you enough about me to let you decide if I'm worth talking to.

I'm am an aspiring fine woodworker (mostly boxes & furniture) and would like to get more serious about it. Frankly, I've not yet made anything great -but wish to do so!

I love music. More then anything I love good guitar music (bass, electric or acoustic). I listen to a lot of Metal - I love the music but it has to have good rhythm and melodies, not just noise. I am by no means a complete metal-head though, my first love on music was funk. I play bass guitar + play Acid Jazz + Heavy/Thrash Metal - two different styles, but then there are many sides to me. Lately I think I would like to learn to play the piano.

I also have a love for anything techie, and I'm always the guy people call to sort out their computer. Though at first appearance you might not notice it, I am underneath a big geek with a love for web design, a touch of programming and a lot of time for open source. For those that are interested lately I'm very much into PHP especially Zend Framework. I run Linux on as many things as I can hack it onto, and have done since about 1999.

However, all that tech stuff has to be tempered with Music, Friends & Family and good nights out. Without them I'd go mad I'm sure.

Lately I have been playing far too much with power tools. I fear it will not end well.

I also really like reading and probably have books on 100 different topics. I like to learn new things.

I think life is for having fun, whilst being good to the people you care about. Whilst I might seem easy-going, the pursuit of knowledge is important to me and I'm always trying to learn something new whatever that may be at the time. I believe that there are many layers to life, and everything is also composed of many parts (one layer is often named "bullshit" and should be ignored) and that you have to look at the world as a whole rather than be trapped inside your own little universe and fill it with frustrations.

I like to be in new places, new cities with new people but at the same time I always like to come home to the things and people that I know and love.

I am empathetic, random, and perceptive, I don't believe in religion, I believe in people.
What I’m doing with my life
I work full time doing IT work for a great local business which sells various football (soccer to some) gear and I quite like it there. I spend the rest of my time jamming or chilling with my mates - I'm rarely found at home during the weekends. But when I am at home, I'm either on the computer probably doing some dark geek magic or practicing on a guitar.

One day I'd really like to put together a proper band, either playing REAL metal -and not the current trend of more style then substance crap that abounds- or to revive Acid Jazz the way it was really meant to be played.

My only real ambition in life is to be happy, though lately I feel a deep urge to just doing something completely different with my life - yet I'm not sure what that is yet.

I’m really good at
Playing bass guitar.
Bullying computers until they inevitably yield to my will.
Solving complex problems.

I wish I was good at writing, as I was at school, but I have never really pursed this to any degree. I think the real problem is that I would need something to write about (why can't I italicize here?) -though as my mind wanders far too freely, I would never settle on a subject long enough to pursue this. I would also like to be more artistic and recently started drawing, though the results are not pretty at the moment! I would like to try my hand at photography sometime, but the lack of a camera scuppers this - despite being a geek, a proper digital camera is the one gadget I don't have.
The first things people usually notice about me
Honestly, I don't know - that is not really a question I have asked. I really don't think about what other people notice about me, there are far more important things in life to worry about.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Yikes I'm not sure - it changes a lot! OK hear goes....

Books: Mostly I read technical or music books, or something which teaches me something new - my bookshelf ranges from PHP Programming to Martial Arts techniques and reading Music. I have read all works by Bruce Lee and the best has to be The Tao of Jeet Kune Do, this led me to an interest in Chinese philosophy especially Taoism - but I am not fixated on any one subject, I like to take the best out of all life has to offer. Fiction wise I have read nearly all Terry Pratchett novels, but need to catch up with the more recent ones. I also have most of the work by Jhonen Vasquez, the artwork appeals to me the most - in a dark way of course.

Otherwise I like a good horror novel. Usually I rely on someone to give me a book or suggest one to read, so if you know of any tell me.

Currently reading "Gothic Tales" by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Movies: Tim Burton movies come top of my list - The Corpse Bride, and Nightmare before Christmas. But my favorite movie is probably The Crow, for personal reasons more than anything. I also love all Bruce Lee movies, and have a guilty love of really bad horror movies - especially weird Japanese ones: Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein. Also you'll often find me watching the Final Fantasy movies or Blade Runner.

Music: Jamiroquai, Metallica, Diamond Head, Mercyful Fate, Opeth, Eminem, Mowtown & Motorhead. Really. If it has bass and a melody, I'm in.

Shows: Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Firefly - that sort of thing. The first two I really love.

Foods: Chocolate is clearly the king of all edible materials man has developed. A damn good fried breakfast after a heavy night drinking comes close.
The six things I could never do without

My friends.
My family.
My guitars.
The internet.
My car.

Maybe not in that order.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
That would change every day, or every hour, or minute. I like to focus on what I'm doing at the time, sometimes to the point of obsessiveness - if you see me do this I am not ignoring you, I am probably solving a problem! When my mind wanders it thinks of music, or of late running away somewhere new.

When I do have nothing to do, it may seem as though I daydream a lot - but usually I'm either working through a computer/programming related problem in my head or visualizing a song in my head which I'll later play (or try to). Lately I've been thinking a lot about the devils interval.

Lately I have been tangled in electronics components as I discovered combing Linux + Arduino. If you even know what that means, then message me as you are cool!

On a typical Friday night I am
Probably in the pub with friends or at home playing my guitar or hacking my computer.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I do have tendency to melancholy, this is usually tempered with other times of creative energy - but sometimes it does get the better of me. Over the years I have learned to deal with this though, and with a little time and space I'm always ok. But anyone who might think of joining me in life would need to accept, and hopefully understand this.
You should message me if
You've read what I have written and still want to message me. If you just want to have a random chat, then message me for any reason. But if your thoughts are more serious, and you are actually looking for someone special then please see my last paragraph below:

Message me if you are looking for someone to talk with, laugh with, or spend time with, who will respect you for who you are and understands that life is never black and white, but can always be fun. If you enjoy life, and are willing to step out and try new things. If you want someone who doesn't play games and will always be open and honest with you - and if you are willing to do the same in return.

[EDIT] Also just message me if you have a suggestion on something interesting to read. I seem to be at loss at the moment. [/EDIT]
