I am smart and funny and have been told that I have a nice personality. I have had many years of therapy (completed) and continue to take self-help workshops of various types around the Bay Area. I have taken workshops most recently at the Human Awareness Institute (HAI), and have become a member of that community. I am liberal politically and very liberal socially.
I enjoy seeing plays, movies, and musicals (my daughter is a singer/actress). I also am somewhat of a foodie and love to dine in fine restaurants, although the economic downturn and my recent retirement has curtailed that activity quite a bit.
I love to have intimate conversations with people I love. You will find me very much an open book. Through all my therapy, I have lost most of my defensiveness and I am very open to someone who loves me (and who I love) pointing out (in a loving and non-accusatory way) places where my remaining “baggage” has come to the fore. I believe that a large part of life is learning more about oneself and striving to become more the person that one was meant to be. And I am constantly aware of that desire to improve myself and I continue to process those times when I fall short of being the person I am working toward being.
I would very much like to find a partner with whom I would be able to share my life. I am looking for a man who would like to be a part of my family and want me to be a part of his. I would like to have a relationship where we would both be comfortable being together when we are at our best and when we are at our worst – sharing good times and bad. A relationship with mutual respect and trust. A man with whom I could laugh and with whom I could cry. A man with warmth, integrity, sense of humor, intelligence and a man who is comfortable being who he is, and who understands that no one is perfect, but that two imperfect beings can have a soul connection and a lot of fun together. Sex isn't my whole life, but it does play a very large role, so I am not interested in any men who think that sex should end at a certain age. I find sweetness and a sense of humor very sexy traits in a man. If a man is intelligent, genuine and can make me laugh, that is an incredible turn on for me. Honesty and integrity are also very important to me in a man. I don't like mind games. I would appreciate a gentleman who is also a gentle man.
I have been told that I am naturally Tantric. So, it would be nice to find someone who is at least interested in Tantra.
I am honest, intelligent, and love to laugh
PLEASE NOTE: If you are religious, especially if you are "god fearing", please don't waste my time and yours by sending me a message. I am an Atheist, and rationality is important to me. If you are spiritual, but not religious (e.g. Buddhist, Pagan, or some such), I might consider meeting you.
I listen to NPR a lot, usually when I am in my car. In fact, there has been many a time when I sat in my car in my driveway (having just gotten home), listening to the last 15 minutes, or half hour of a program on NPR, because I couldn't pull myself away. Although I am certainly NOT a car geek, I love Car Talk. Those guys are so funny and I still remember that one time when they explained how an automatic transmission works. They made it understandable (not that I remember it exactly, but...). I also enjoy All Things Considered, This American Life, and others.
Re: comedy: I enjoy watching Bill Maher, Louis CK, Lewis Black, John Oliver, Chris Rock, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, and Billy Crystal, among others. I mostly enjoy comedians with a very liberal (both politically and socially) slant.
My favorite music: I don't know much about music, but I know what I like: The types of music that seem to resonate with me are: Celtic music, African music, Gregorian Chants (even though I was brought up Jewish), some old 60s & 70s music, and some of the type of music that is played for meditation. What I like the best though, is listening to my daughter sing (she is a musical theater singer/actress)!
My favorite books: Harry Potter series; mysteries, science fiction; Non-fiction psychology and self-help books.
Favorite poem: "The Journey" by Mary Oliver (It really resonates with me)
My favorite movies: Pixar movies, especially Toy Story 3, Monsters, Inc. and The Incredibles; The Fifth Element; GalaxyQuest; Spiderman 2; Cinema Paridiso; The Princess Bride; Like Water for Chocolate.
Some favorite TV shows: Sherlock on BBC, The Big Bang Theory, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Monk, All the old Star Trek series, Jon Stewart, Rachel Maddow, Psych, House
My favorite quotations: "We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."
“The unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel)
"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." Michael Jordan
My favorite food: I love lots of different kinds of foods, but Asian foods are probably my favorites, especially Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese.

OK, in the interest of honesty, red is NOT the hair color I was born with. It used to be dark brown. Only my hairdresser knows what color it is right now under the red (I asked her once and she said, "you don't want to know"). But all my life I wanted red hair and I finally decided that it was worth the money to me to make myself happy.
If you are looking for friendship, I am also looking for new friends who live in San Francisco and with whom I can share dinner, movies, other activities, so let me know if you are interested in that.
If you find my profile interesting and would like to get to know me better and you live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
