My self-summary
One of the best things about being a Capricorn is that we don't believe in astrology. If seeming contradictions like this amuse you or make perfect sense, we'll get along famously. If they annoy or anger you… well, I'm sure you're beautiful when you're angry. One of the things you'll hear me say the most is, "these are not mutually exclusive options." Because life is too short to be in a hurry.

I crack myself up. And I believe what I'm laughing about. See?

I am creative, perceptive, and unconventional. Occasionally I may even be brilliant. I think before I speak and I listen before I reply. Some people can't stand that silence; I live in it.

One of my favorite things to do is read aloud. If I find an article in a magazine I'd rather read it to you than hand it to you. I love reading books aloud before bed. Or in bed.

At this very moment, my ideal romantic relationship looks like this: I read aloud to you, you sing to me in Portuguese and love my cats. The rest is just details. I can't decide whether that means I'm too picky or not picky enough. Perhaps I'll update this once I get that figured out.

OK, not necessarily Portuguese specifically. Though it does seem to be one of the most beautiful languages for song lyrics.
What I’m doing with my life
Mostly I write code, do software and database design for an order system for SF visitors to reserve tours and cruises. That supports my writing habit, as well as my eating, housing, and healthcare habits. Some nights I hunt for Messier objects, but my telescope is really a planetary 'scope so I might have to build a new one.
I’m really good at
Crosshatching. Chess. Finding patterns in chaos. Making terrible puns. Completely missing the point.

Occasionally I make an awesome carrot cake.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm not other people, so I had to ask someone else. She said it was my "pretty blue eyes." I find that hard to believe, though. My eyes are pretty gray.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, Foucault's Pendulum, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Sound of Waves (Mishima), The Abortion (Brautigan), Cancer Ward (Solzhenitsyn), A Deepness in the Sky (Vinge), Solaris (Stanislaw Lem).

Movies: Brazil, Blade Runner, Taken, Stalker (Tarkovsky)

Music: Love and Rockets, Niyaz, MIDIval PunditZ, Banco de Gaia, Alien Chatter, Dubtribe Sound System, Céu, Philip Glass, King Crimson, Boogie Down Productions. Janet LaValley's voice does unspeakable things to me. And of course: Johnny Cash, Judas Priest, and Devo.

Food: sushi, Thai. I go to Chow for spaghetti and meatballs when I want comfort food. I loves me a flat iron steak.
The six things I could never do without
A fountain pen. It would be cheating for me to say ink or paper next, wouldn't it?

Whenever I think I can't do without something, kismet takes It away from me and I learn that I can live without it. I think I could never do without email or my cellphone, but then when I've been forced to do without one or the other the quality of my life has improved. So it is very possible that anything I think I could never do without is actually something I should do without.

Rain. Periodically I check the weather forecast hoping for rain. Beautiful and sunny has its merits of course, but I love the rain. I go for walks in the rain and I could sit and watch and listen to the rain endlessly.

Stars. I have a telescope and I don't use it much because it doesn't fit on the motorcycle very well. When I look up at the night sky and see the Pleiades I feel that everything is right with the world.

That's three. I'll have to get back to you about the rest.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Economics. Yeah, sorry. It's been an obsession of mine lately.

Whether running barefoot is really a good way to avoid common runners' injuries.

When we will smarten up and start building liquid fluoride thorium reactors.
On a typical Friday night I am
Exactly as tall as I am the rest of the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
OK, actually, those ARE mutually exclusive options.
You should message me if
You like a little contradiction in your life, or better yet, you see past apparent contradiction to a greater kind of truth. You think riding through the mountains on an Italian motorcycle sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon. You think dinosaurs are cool. You enjoy being read to.
