My self-summary
I'm a human who tries to pay attention to what is important. I try to meditate regularly, and I'm going on my first silent retreat in February 2017. I eat healthy, mostly vegetarian things, I've been an engineer for 20 years and am getting good at it. I care a great deal about art, and I enjoy dancing.

I don't really drink more than a glass of wine these days.
What I’m doing with my life
Work, trying to get my life in better order, and trying to figure out how religion works as an adult. I have previously been an athiest, but Buddhism is an operating manual for the brain, so I'm investigating. I think the other religions are, also. The best sets of rules that have been found to date for calming the part of your mind that makes you dissatisfied. In any case, even the few weeks of meditating that I have done so far have had great impact on my life.
I’m really good at
Oh, this and that. Being ridiculous.
The first things people usually notice about me
Something eye-catching but ultimately unimportant. :-) I have long hair and smile often, so probably one of those things.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
Ender's Game
Strange Stories, Amazing Facts - a giant collection of both factual and fictional stories, sort of a combination of an entertaining encyclopedia and mythology.
Little Altars Everywhere

Music: Yes, all of it. Classical. Techno. 80's. Beatles. Classic rock.
Six things I could never do without
Books. I am trying to love them all.
People. I am trying to love them all.
Animals. I am trying to love them all. I have one cat, Chaucer, and I am currently trying to teach him to play hide and seek.
Food, fresh and good but in small quantity.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why we are discontent.
On a typical Friday night I am
Home. Occasionally I will go out to dinner or a party.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Some of the unpleasant things that happen to me are consequences of my own choices, and for some reason that makes me grin today.
You should message me if
...you would like to talk. Preferably in person, online there is no nuance.
