My self-summary
I'll try to keep it short. I love science, the outdoors, reading, good music, good beer, drawing, exercising, cooking, watching movies and riding motorcycles and horses. Also I play violin (mostly classical), although not with enough dedication to be particularly good. I'm in a long term monogamish relationship, so I'm primarily interested in using this site to make new friends and to entertain myself by reading strangers' profiles, although exceptions may apply for some exceptional person. I've moved around quite a bit over the last couple years and this site has been pretty helpful for meeting people in new places; I'm hoping it'll continue to be!
What I’m doing with my life
Moved up to Eugene, OR from northern California to do natural resources stuff. I'm always looking for the next adventure, but I don't really think much about the non-immediate future. I just try to enjoy life as it comes I guess.
I'm excited to explore Oregon and have a great time while I'm doing it.
I’m really good at
Healing quickly, untying knots, watching movies, drinking tea, reading, making curry.
The first things people usually notice about me
Big eyes, short stature, resting bitch face
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
No point in me trying to keep this part short. I have a lot of favorites.

Authors: I am currently reading Infinite Jest and am utterly obsessed with it. Aside from that:
the obvious greats (Steinbeck, Faulkner, Dickens, Dumas, Nabakov, Tolstoy, Shakespeare and all that) also Tom Robbins, Hesse, Jorge Luis Borges, Don Dellilo, Pete Dexter, Mark Danielewski, Ethan Canin, Chuck Palahniuk, Brautigan, Vonnegut, Mark Salzman, Alex Garland, Philip K. Dick, Barbara Kingsolver, Ethan Hawke (slightly embarrassing, I guess, but whatever)
I've been getting way into nonfiction lately (John Krakauer, Jon Ronson, Malcom Gladwell, Carl Zimmer, the Freakonomics dream team, E.O. Wilson, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Ryan, Joshua Foer, David Rakoff, David Sedaris). I'm not big into fantasy but I did enjoy the Song of Ice and Fire series and I like Neil Gaiman.

Movies: Most anything by Guy Richie, Quentin Tarantino or Richard Linklater, most Wes Anderson and Darren Aronofsky movies, I <3 Huckabees, the Edukators, the Professional, Fight Club, Memento, Garden State, Little Miss Sunshine

Music-Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down, Eric Clapton, Beirut, The Black Keys, Queens of the Stone Age, Gary Clark Jr., Elliott Smith, La Roux, Marilyn Manson, Metric, Bright Eyes, Andrew Bird, Neutral Milk Hotel, Taarka, Vasen, Otis Redding, Nick Drake, Dredg, Cursive, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Devil Makes Three, Cake, Deadboy and the Elephantmen, the Decembrists, the Flaming Lips, Rush, Yes, The Moody Blues, the Polyrhythmics, Iron and Wine, Nirvana, A Perfect Circle, Placebo, Radiohead, the Shins, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tori Amos, the White Stripes, the XX, Ratatat, Gogol Bordello

Shows: Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Trek Next Generation, House of Cards, The Killing, True Detective, Orange is the New Black, the Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Sherlock, Lie to me, Arrested Development, Archer. Although I'm by no means a fan, anime is starting to grow on me (I liked Baccano! and Darker than Black... currently watching Attack on Titan)

Radio/podcasts: This American Life, 99% Invisible, RadioLab, Wiretap, Bullseye, Risk, Freakonomics, TED Radio Hour, Planet Money, Radio Diaries, Radio Ambulante, Strangers, Theory of Everything, Savage Love, JJGo, Judge John Hodgman, Oh No Ross and Carrie

I really love food. My favorite cuisines are Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Cajun and Moroccan. I also love me some delicious beer (that's a food group, right? )
The six things I could never do without
A terraformed Earth
Food and water
The ability to laugh at the absurd
I spend a lot of time thinking about
bugs, plants, fungi, motorcycles, food, music, radio, the end of the world, whether or not anyone ever really learns anything, whatever book I'm currently in the middle of...
On a typical Friday night I am
Spending time with the boy or with friends, going out and about to see live music, drink beers, etc. or staying home alone making food, reading, watchin' a movie...whatever I feel like, basically.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a profile on a dating site because I have a hard time making new friends outside of work.
You should message me if
you're a cool girl (nothing against men, but it's typically a lot harder for me to make female friends)
you want to trade books
you have a motorcycle and want to show me some good roads
you can teach me something new
you listen to good music
you're not a republican/tea party/fascist crazy
you want a new friend (probably not what most people are on here looking for, I know, but if it is and you think we would click, hit me up)
Although this should go without saying, I'm not going to message you back if you just say hello or how u doing grl or some equally banal thing. I'm just not.
