My self-summary
I'm a professional musician and a semi-professional geek. Video games, sci-fi/horror movies, tabletop RPGs, anime...I love it all. I'm a little socially awkward and I tend to be uncomfortable in large crowds, but I hide it well.
What I’m doing with my life
I work. A lot. Well...if you call it that. I play and teach music for a living. My weekends are usually spent gigging and during the week I teach private lessons and I also teach a marching drumline and concert percussion ensemble. Technically it's work, but I love every moment of it.

I decided a couple of years ago to pursue my lifelong passion and that has led me to Birmingham. It's been a journey and the path that has led me here has been long, hard, happy, and at times a little depressing and lonely. But mostly it's been awesome, and the journey is far from over.
I’m really good at
Typing, remembering useless facts, most things related to music, explaining things, cooking, being a monomaniacal reductionist, procrastinating.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm not really sure...maybe I should ask someone.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: "Origins: 14 Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution" by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "The Demon Haunted World" by Carl Sagan, "Why People Believe Weird Things" by Michael Shermer, "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski, The Hunger Games trilogy. Many, many others...mostly popular science, but also horror/thriller/suspense and classic American Literature.

Movies (a short list in no particular order): American Beauty (my favorite movie), Amelie, Hard Candy, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, The Virgin Suicides, May, The Sentinel, Rosemary's Baby, Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead I and III, Natural Born Killers, Interview With the Vampire, Vanilla Sky, Requiem For a Dream, The Professional, The Cabin in the Woods, anything by Tarantino, anything by Kevin Smith, The Hunger Games, A Midsummer Night's Dream (the American version with Michelle Pfeiffer), Flesh For the Beast, any horror movie, especially b-movies and classic horror, pretty much anything by Troma (Unspeakable, Tromeo and Juliet, The Toxic Avenger, etc.) Also, documentaries...some of my favorites are: The Revisionaries, Jesus Camp, Hell House, Indie Game, Religulous, This Film Is Not Yet Rated, Best Worst Movie, etc.

Shows: American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, South Park, Master Chef, Hell's Kitchen, South Park, Trigun, Degrassi (don't judge me). Also, any space or science shows.

Music: Lots. Earth, Wind, & Fire, Tower of Power, James Brown, Poe, The Cardigans, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, MC Chris, MC Frontalot, Nine Inch Nails, Tenacious D, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Snarky Puppy, t.a.t.u., Ogre Mage, Garbage, George Hrab, 8 Bit Weapon, Mr. Bungle, Cyndi Lauper, and many, many more.

Food: Indian food (especially vindaloo, saag, makhni, vegetable samosas, pakoras...pretty much everything). I also like sushi quite a bit. Spicy tuna, eel, and tuna nigiri/sashimi are my favorites. I like a lot of other food, but I like Indian and sushi the best. I also like to cook quite a bit, mainly Italian. I make a pretty mean baked ziti. I can also make the best green beans you've even had. Truth.
Six things I could never do without
All manner of spicy food
Good movies
Good books
Honorable mention: Red Bull
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the hell I'm going to do with my life. The buffalo sentence. Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
On a typical Friday night I am
Gigging. Or relaxing at home watching Netflix and immensely enjoying not being surrounded by obnoxious drunk people
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My greatest guilty pleasures are Degrassi (all incarnations) and To Catch a Predator.
You should message me if made it this far. I'd like to meet some like-minded individuals to geek out over video games, anime, TV shows, etc. or go catch a movie or dinner on occasion. Being in an unfamiliar town is difficult for a socially awkward introvert with mild social anxiety.
