My self-summary
Obligatory disclaimer: except for my sense of humor, my mental age is about a thousand years old. I'm a single mom and my life isn't mine to throw away on nonsense. You don't have to have adulthood figured out to be my friend, but successful adulthood is my goal and it'd be nice to have that in common with more people.
I like staying in and watching movies or playing games. That's not to say I'm not active...well, I'm not tremendously active, but I love hiking and I'd like to find some people who are into rock climbing and don't mind that I can't belay them.
I want to have friends again. I want to talk to people and have them respond to what I say instead of just waiting for their turn to speak. I want to find more of those precious few people who don't suck and get to know them better.
I want friends who make me my best self.
What I’m doing with my life
Good question.
I’m really good at
Alienating people, often with my sense of humor.
Thinking tactically.
Hiking too fast.
The first things people usually notice about me
"That looks like [my sister's name] over there...except isn't she supposed to be about five inches taller?"
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like fantasy, humor, satire, and particularly interesting nonfiction. Despite being no longer in the Young Adult age range, I also like a lot of YA sci-fi and fantasy. The authors I return to again and again are Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett and Tamora Pierce. I like to hand out my Discworld novels and try to get other people hooked.
Awful movies like The Room make me so damn happy. Otherwise, these days I mostly just watch comedies because I'm short on time and brainpower. I think older Mel Brooks stuff is awesome, and Monty Python movies make me happy. Recently, I've been wanting to watch more documentaries, and maybe even stuff that's supposed to have literary value. Since 30 Rock finished its run I've been watching television only when I'm doing something else that isn't distracting enough. I think New Girl is the sitcom equivalent of popcorn: even though it's insubstantial, its consumption is still fun.
Everyone dislikes the music I like and I hate pretending to care about everyone else's musical tastes, so I have staked out my claim to a musical micronation: when the conversation heads that direction, I cling to my rock of bad taste and no one recognizes my existence. It's awesome, because then I can go back to playing games on my phone instead of feeling compelled to pay attention when I have nothing to contribute to the discussion.
I'll try any comestible once unless it has a carapace. Mediterranean is my favorite type of cuisine, but Italian food is uber-comforting. And while I don't like seafood, there's no one kind of food I completely hate. I DO strongly prefer vegan food, especially vegan entrees. Meat's just boring by comparison.
The six things I could never do without
My family, caffeine, baba ganoush, the complete series of Daria on DVD, books, and stimulating conversation.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Cake songs, and how well they lend themselves to critical analysis.
On a typical Friday night I am
Trying desperately to catch up on everything I should've been doing all week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have an unhealthy obsession with words.
You should message me if
You want to talk about something interesting. Evaluating my physical attractiveness does not qualify as interesting.
