My self-summary
I'm an introvert with a public job -- I guess that means I'm a walking contradiction. I can work a room but need downtime to recover afterwards.

I'm industrious, thoughtful, talented and skilled at many things.

I am passionate about my own growth and development but not high strung or too tightly wound. Napping is never a challenge.

I'm pretty committed to living out loud, as they say. I enjoy my public job and I also know the difference between being in the public eye and my private life at home.

I'm a writer so I could go on but I'd rather discuss any of this over coffee or a walk.
What I’m doing with my life
Writing, teaching and speaking about simplifying and sustainability.

Helping people achieve their goals, both on large and small scales.

Eradicating debilitating delusion whenever it crops up in me -- I'm not overly concerned with your delusions unless they directly affect me.
I’m really good at
Talking, writing, cooking, thinking, feeling, sleeping, gardening, massaging, walking, biking, hiking ...
The first things people usually notice about me
No idea. I'm tall and my head is shaved. People sometimes seem compelled to rub the top of my head.

One of the first things I notice about them are their shoes. No foot fetish here, but good shoes catch my eye.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I spend a lot of time in non-fiction land so I really enjoy mysteries -- the Swedes and Norwegians especially. It's a great escape from work.

I love Indian food -- I live near "Curry Hill" so I'm often there.

Peach/blackberry pie/cobbler/crumble/betty. Pretty perfect in any form.

Movies run from light romantic comedies (that are well-written and performed) to challenging cinema. Love action movies and things where people chase other people, again the better written the better.

I like smart writers who don't make a point of reminding you how smart they are.

I put myself through college playing drums so I have a good sense of time and rhythm. I like songs I can sing along with.

Silence is fine too sometimes. The sound of the tide coming in is pretty sweet.
The six things I could never do without
I've done without plenty. I'd prefer to not be without:

Dental hygiene
Clean water (for drinking and/or bathing)
Loving and thoughtful people, especially ones I already know intimately
The ability to communicate
The opportunity to touch another person
A view of something green and living out of doors (if indoors)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future
People I love
People I haven't met yet
The concept of god/spirit/universal something within each living being -- life is a mystery
Why so much about organized religion seems to divide people rather than unite them -- what's that about?
How I can do/be better
What I need to clean up
What I need to do before I can take a nap
How to quiet my mind from telling me things that aren't true but seem compelling
On a typical Friday night I am
with friends or alone. Both are fine. Cooking, eating, at the movies or doing something "cultural." Hiking, camping, rowing out on a lake under the moonlight. Getting ready for bed.

I don't have a standard 9-5 job so no day is typical, including the nights.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Is nothing I'd publish here.

I don't have a bunch of secrets -- I'll answer anything in person.
You should message me if
any of the above piques your interest.

You should have a sense of humor and be passionate about something. I'm pretty driven and if you're just hanging out, it won't bother me but it might bother you.

I love to laugh -- I'm serious about my work but I also appreciate the big and small absurdities that make up life every day. Hopefully you can remind me of them when I'm holding onto something that is causing me grief and I can do the same for you.
