My self-summary
I'm a cynically introverted nerdasaurus. Aside from that, I'm a really nice dude, always doing good deeds and helping ladies across the street and whatnot. Idiosyncratic, free-thinking, deceptively square, jaded optimist, more pub than club, geeky yet outdoorsy and disdainful of gadgets & brands. Deep down, I'm a bit of an ass (in the sharp-witted and a tad too honest sort of way), but I'm generally gentlemanly and intensely loyal, so people never believe it until they get to know me for a while. My heart is in the right place though, so I'm an ass who cares.

I have a tuxedo cat named Zero. I use her to pick up babes whenever possible, but sometimes she doesn't help because she is an alcoholic unlike my pal's tuxedo cat, who is pretty awesome.

Beyond that, I'm relatively new to the Valley and Northridge. I moved out here for school and unfortunately the social circles at class & work aren't very tight. So I usually end up visiting friends outside the valley and still haven't been able to try much of what the valley offers. In fact, the Valley seems pretty damn boring up to this point, which I hope isn't really true. So this is where you, lovely okcupid.come in: show me some of your favorite things around here. I've got high standards for the people I find interesting, but if I think you're worth meeting up with I promise you'll enjoy the company!

What I’m doing with my life
Working on a master's in a highly academic field. I kinda hate academia, so I dunno what's up with that.

This semester involves teaching PSY 101, tutoring autistic kids and hopefully starting a thesis. It's tons of fun but zomg is it exhausting.
I’m really good at
Getting lost in a book. I see text and suddenly it's 30 minutes later. Which is why this profile is too damn long sometimes.
The first things people usually notice about me
Aside from all the negative space in my face, I've apparently started exuding jewishness from my very pores. I should totally grow out my sideburns and make them all curly.

And I tend to get this dynamic where people who first meet me in person tend to be like "aww, you're not nerdy/introverted" like it's a bad thing. While here it comes off like I just slithered out of my parent's basement. Apparently I need to balance things better.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A) Asimov, Herbert, Stephenson, D. Adams, P.K. Dick, Gaiman, Crichton, Clark, W. Ellis, Busiek, Bradbury, R.A. Wilson and Heinlein. Yeah, I'm a tad geeky, but I read a lot in general and not just Sci-Fi. Been reading some Wodehouse lately, any other witty wordsmiths you'd like to recommend? I Haven't had time for novels lately (if there's a book around I do NOTHING until it's finished), who're some good short fiction authors?

B) Gilliam, Kubrick, Miyazaki, Hertzfeldt, Pixar, Cronenberg, The Aristocrats, Amelie, Ricki-oh: The Story of Ricki, American Psycho, Pan's/Bowie's Labyrinth. Sci-fi, comedy, animation and dark subject matter however it's presented. Like books, I enjoy most genres, but I've got a soft spot for this sort.

C) I usually listen to rock stations, even though I pretty much semi-dislike them all. I mean, they never play Bob Log III on the radio, so obviously they have no fucking taste. I still miss Indie 103.1. Tool, Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, SOAD, NIN, Godspeed; You? Black! Emperor%, QOTSA, The Faint, Boards of Canada, Four Tet, MC Frontalot, downbeat, random electronica, classic rock. Anything that doesn't suck, for the most part. I've been listening to a bunch of Royksopp and The Knife lately, I can't tell whether I' doing it ironically, or because I actually like it. I <3 loud, angry stuff but I've been laying off cuz I'm sick of the hearing loss.

D) While I'm a big fan of asian food, there's very little I don't like. I like to try new things as often as I can. I tend to cook for myself on account of being a broke-ass student who likes to cook. I also dig craft beers, which I really wish didn't clash so much with gym.
Six things I could never do without
Computer, Car, CD player in said car, text, glasses and close friends, which I'm realizing more and more.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life is far too important to ever talk seriously about. -Oscar Wilde
On a typical Friday night I am
Skipping town to visit distant friends/family. Failing that, planning to skip town or futzing around on the interwebs with said friends. It's getting kind of old not having anything fun to do in the town I actually live in, WTF is there to do in the SFV? I dig going to art openings on weekends, though they technically aren't on Fridays.

I REALLY want to start hiking again, and I've finally gotten Sunday's off to do so! :) I spent most of high school backpacking, and sorely miss it now that everyone's too busy drinking to go camping. If you're a backpacker/camper I'd LOVE to hear from you.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Glasses are a huge weakness of mine. They make me think you founded the local mensa chapter, despite the fact that you're drooling into your bib. For me, how attractive you are is strongly correlated to how intelligent I think you are. Note that I didn't say "pretentious," so you don't need to be quoting obtuse philosophers all the time.

Also, OKC took away my "more kinky" medal and added some boring ones. This hurts more than I'm willing to admit.
You should message me if
You're any of the following: intelligent, independent, geeky, misanthropic, funny, quiet, cynical, silly, vivacious, bespectacled, literate, curmudgeonly, kind-hearted, interesting or live around CSUN and could use another smart, quirky friend. NOTE: I gotta admit that I don't get the woo. Feel free to try it, but all it says to me is "HI! I'm very boring and am incapable of coming up with a single intelligent sentence encouraging you to contact me!"
