My self-summary
I am working my way through a giant mug of my favorite hot chocolate, just like I do every night from mid-September to late May. Tonight, I'm doing my best to type while holding a purring black cat who keeps licking.. my.. nose! My house is warm and my computer is working. From the stereo in the corner, Dave Matthews is singing a song about counting your blessings. Life is good.

So hello out there! I am the kind of person who talks to plants (apologizing, mostly). I don't kill anything intentionally, even insects (mosquitoes get three strikes). I hate styrofoam, dusting, and raisins. I eat some form of chocolate for breakfast whenever possible. I know how to spell words like "separately" and "definitely". I love hot summer days and thunderstorms. I worry about the state of the planet and try very hard not to be Part of the Problem. My conscience is a big part of who I am.

You (I hope) have a sense of humor and goofy side. You are willing to show me how to fix my car while I pretend to be paying attention. You "lose" games of hide-and-seek with small children. You like at least five vegetables. You keep me laughing AND thinking. You are sensitive but possess that perfect touch of infuriating maleness (confession: women love that).

I don't need magic. I want real.
Since I haven't met you in the produce section at Whole Foods, here we are now, in this strange place. I've had a few long-term relationships, plus several more that didn't get that far, and I have learned something from every one of them. Now, when I meet someone, I go into it with the wisdom and experience to know that the likelihood of finding love may be slim, but the possibilities of getting to meet an interesting and worthwhile person are infinite. Sounds like a pretty good deal, either way, doesn't it?
What I’m doing with my life
A lot has happened since I started this profile. Most notably, I am now raising my two preschoolers, twin boys who are... every cliche a mother could use to describe her love for her children. It's a new world, where there is lots of room in my heart for another man, but not so much time in my day. Just ask my poor cats!
I’m really good at
procrastinating. It's a skill, you know.

finding typos on restaurant menus. It's a gift.

remembering local zip codes. It's a hazard of the job.

clearing paper jams out of printers. Damn, this is depressing..

knowing where the [orange cement mixer/brown crayon/left sneaker] is.

backleading. Wait-- can a person be good at something that's considered bad?
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know.. The chocolate on my chin?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: The Time Traveler's Wife (didn't see the movie- why mess with perfection?), The Once and Future King, The Princess Bride, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, A Burnable Book. I like Barbara Kingsolver, and I'm not into horror but I think Stephen King is insane/a genius. Currently enjoying Memoirs of a Goldfish. There really are a whole lot of great books out there, so it's fun to go to a used book store and just try your luck.

movies: You've Got Mail, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Chicago, Mary Poppins, Shawshank Redemption. The film version of Princess Bride is pure happiness. Any movie with John and Joan C. And those Pixar people, they make me smile, too.

music: Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Sarah McLachlan, David Gray, old Genesis, Everything But the Girl. The best concert I ever went to was Ben Folds at the Calvin in October 2009; that man can rock a piano and work a crowd! I crave Foo Fighters and Chili Peppers sometimes. I also love George Michael, in case you want to make something of it :)

food (vegetarian): chocolate, potatoes, mushrooms, avocados, and an unholy addiction to plain whole Greek yogurt. I like hot peppers, and Gulden's spicy mustard, but I also crave nice mushy bland oatmeal.

tv: Major Crimes, Modern Family, Rachel Maddow. I miss Jon Stewart, but Samantha Bee is filling the gap some. Big Bang Theory is hilarious. I sneak guilty peeks at my old flame Charmed when I get a chance, and I can easily get sucked into cooking competitions on the Food Network, or marathons of Say Yes to the Dress (somebody, change the channel!). Downton Abbey, I shall surely miss you!
The six things I could never do without
my Family - small and close
my Boys - love times infinity times two
my Prius - not my favorite of my cars, but it does the job
Music - without which there would be very little singing in the Prius, and hardly any
Dancing - latin, ballroom, swing, hoppin' around the house
Chocolate - dark, no I mean really dark
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the human condition. I had a bumper sticker that says "Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?"

how lucky I am. I really do.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out watching the kids sleep. It could be fun, in the right company..
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am hooked on "So You Think You Can Dance" (not to be confused with "Dancing With the Stars"). Don't even call me during my show! I can't answer because I'm very busy holding my breath, or yelling at the judges, or crying a little.
You should message me if
you like coffee and you hate small talk. We'll get through it :)
