My self-summary
I'm a bit of a rambler at the moment. I'm spending half the year in Medellin Colombia, and the other half in the U.S. I spent a few years in Phuket, Thailand just a little while ago... and I hope to make it back for a nice stretch some day.

I grew up in the American South. in some ways, I revel in the culture that brought me up, while in other ways I'm the antithesis of a Southerner. I'd like to think i absorbed all the great stuff about Southern culture, while leaving behind most of the crud.

I'm pretty well traveled for a young southern man, but not nearly well traveled enough for my tastes. I have a desire to see and experience the world and it's cultures in a way that borders on wanderlust. I travel as often as I can afford to, in ways and to places that many Americans would be discomforted by.

I am open-minded, adventuresome, and kharmically optimistic
What I’m doing with my life
I'm trying to appreciate beauty, enjoy tranquility, and achieve as much happiness as my heart can hold. Hopefully, I will share that happiness with my friends, who have given so much to me.
I’m really good at
Games and Logic. I'm a damn fine cook as well. I love dancing. I'm really good at getting along with Puppies and Dogs. They just love me, but I'll let you in on a little secret: I cheat. I let them lick my face. Licking my face is very high on most dog's TO DO lists.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am loud. Boisterous, even. It's hard *not* to notice me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
BOOKS: I do a lot of reading. Robert Heinlein is my favorite author, and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is my favorite book. I also dig Harry Potter, Orson Scott Card, and George R.R. Martin. I'm usually reading two or three books at a time, one re-read of a book that is important to me, one piece of fiction, and one nonfiction book. I was raised on Plato's Phaedrus the way many people are raised on the Bible. Ludwig Von Mises' Human Action, Henry Hazlitt's Economics in One Easy Lesson, and Kant's Critique of Pure Reason are all very important to me.

MOVIES: I love good film, and there is no genre I don't appreciate when it's well done. My favorites are as diverse as the very cerebral, to which I enjoy discussing endlessly, to a feel good RomCom that's just made for snuggling.

MUSIC: My music tastes are also very diverse, but I'm primarily into Stoner Rock, Hip Hop, Funk, and Soul Music. I've seen Clutch live more than twenty times now, and my friends and I regularly road trip to see them when they are within driving distance. I'm also pretty big into Drum and Bass as well as the Hardcore Breakbeats that brought EDM to my attention in the early 90s.

I'm very unpicky when it comes to food genres.. and adventurous as well. I am not a vegetarian, but between my father, sister, and former roommate being vegetarians, I am used to cooking for and dining out with them in ways that your average omnivore is not. I am very good at smoking meats in the southern tradition, and have a love for classic southern breakfast. I seek out soul food when I can, and explore comfort foods from all cultures. I've recently learned a ton about cooking south east asian foods.
The six things I could never do without
Food, Water, Shelter, Friendship. Everything else is optional. I don't mean this in a snarky way, either. I've really come a long way in the past few years to not being so attached to things. I suppose a Kindle packed with books, and a smart phone with internet access are so valuable now that my life would be much worse without one.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
decentralization of everything
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't really have typical Friday nights. My work schedule often has me taking advantage of Fridays as a particularly good time to be working, but I'm free enough that I can choose to spend the time with my friends when they are celebrating the end of their work week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I can't sit through "It's a Wonderful Life" without tearing up. I am similarly affected by the "La Marseille" scene in Casablanca, and by hearing Ennio Morricone's "Ecstasy of Gold" Oh, and I'm a sucker for Julie Andrews movies, and yearn to shout "CHE-ROOOO" from the rooftops of London!
You should message me if
You think I'm the kind of guy you'd like to know better. If so, go ahead and message me! Are you really afraid that I'll be mean or something? If not, WTF are you doing still reading my profile? Go find someone you might like! Life's too short to waste any more time on me now that you don't think you'll like me much.
