My self-summary
I'm not very good at introspection, but a brief history would include that I grew up in Illinois and came to California quite a while ago to study mathematics. I dropped out of graduate school to work in the tech industry, and have been managing some combination of computers and people ever since.

I like farmer's markets, good salami, and a nice rye Manhattan before dinner. I also like taking pictures of people I know, playing with my friends' children, and excuses to use interesting tools.

I just updated my profile, but I'm not sure it really changed that much.
What I’m doing with my life
Working, but only a little too much.

Contemplating home improvement projects that will probably end up taking five times longer than expected and involve many trips to the hardware store. Following through less often now that my house isn't really falling apart that much.

Planning to get into the habit of walking more before winter hits and discourages me.
I’m really good at
Organizing and planning other people's stuff.

Mai tais, Manhattans, or just rum and whiskey drinks in general.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have at least a six week supply of Aloha shirts, and most are relatively tasteful.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm bad at favorites, so these are just a few examples that have caught my attention recently.

Books -- Charles Stross, China Miéville (I loved Perdido Street Station and Un Lun Dun, but I'm not sure that I really get Iron Council), and I keep meaning to start the collected stories of Theodore Sturgeon. Recently rereading Gibson, realizing it's probably a lot better because he didn't know anything about technology, and that the future used to be cooler. Occasionally Ruth Reichl and trying to figure out if MFK Fisher counted as fiction or memoir.

Television -- Most recently, The Magicians (but I think I like the first two books better, still deciding about the last one), The Man in the High Castle, and usually waiting for the next season of Archer. Supernatural, too, but I don't always admit it in public. Rewatching Top Chef.

Music -- Cracker, The Great Crusades, Martin Denny, The Pogues, Kelly Hogan, Neko Case. A lot of other stuff that I'm bad at remembering in a crunch.

Food -- You name it. I'm fond of barbecue (Korean, Oakland, or carne asada) and a good Dungeness crab, but I'm no stranger to tabouleh and masala dosa. I love cooking and eating good food. I'd like to open a restaurant when this whole internet thing blows over, but I'm probably too much of a dilettante to follow through.
Six things I could never do without
In no particular order:

1. Ribeye steak
2. Saba nigiri
3. Vegan Birkenstocks
4. Uni-ball Vision Elite pens in blue-black ink
5. A good screwdriver
6. All the usual stuff like friends, oxygen and Maker's Mark
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Just now, how much mint do I need to grow to ensure that I can always have mojito supplies when the new lime tree gets bigger.

Whether there will be Russian troops garrisoned in the US in the next four years.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I say things I don't mean, but I get offended when people don't believe me.
The two of us
