I spend time in Colombia for my research so I tend to make a couple of trips there a year.
I've often been told that I am "real," and easy to be around.
My Philly-ness ;)
I don't go to the movies as often, but I feel like a little kid when I do because it's so awesome. I'm generally more into independent films. I really like movies with great character development. Recently I saw the Danish Girl, and I thought it was an incredibly beautiful film.
However-- outside of that--some of my all-time favorites over the years: Better Off Dead, The Princess Bride, Shawshank, The Hangover, Almost Famous.
I love to try new restaurants and eclectic and spicy food.
I also like to experiment with cooking.
I love to read but haven't had much time for pleasure reading the past few years. I read a book called "Ready Player One." I was desperate, but ended up really appreciating the way that it conveyed complex social realities through the development of virtual reality technology. Right now I am trying to get started on One Hundred Years of Solitude for the third time.
I watch Netflix now and again and have seen Breaking Bad which was entertaining even though a bit violent for me. Also Orange is the New Black, Mad Men, and House of Cards. I have somewhat of a love-hate relationship with watching shows because even though I'm not totally into them at times, I feel obligated to finish them. Is that crazy?
(I'm also kind of obsessed with "The Voice" which can double as the most private thing I'm willing to admit...)
I listen to NPR shows when I can- Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and This American Life. Sometimes I like On Being- the intersection of science and the spiritual.
Then there is laughter, music, variety, stimulating conversations, physical activity, and dark chocolate with sea salt!
(I really have to add in warm weather, natural beauty, and good sleep.)
how do my part to make the world a better place
how to continually grow and be the best version of myself
how to surround myself with great people who support all of the above :)
if what i'm sharing here is what i am really like or how i remember myself before i spent the past 5 years doing my doctorate.
I get along with all types of people and appreciate sincerity, creativity, and a zest for life.
