My self-summary
Be love. Give love. Spread love.
What I’m doing with my life
After 8 years in the non-profit industrial complex, I've decided the world can be saved predominantly through dance parties and amazing sushi.

Actually, I learned the world doesn't need saving at all.

Now, I poke and prod people, sometimes set them on fire, and force them to drink nasty herbs. But everyone feels better after.
I’m really good at
Nodding sagely, expounding on seemingly-absurdly-tangential theoretical perspectives on everything and anything, sarcastic NY humor and wit.

Appreciating movies, music and creativity, geeking out about random and quirky things, encouraging others, eating and drinking really well, 8-ball pool in bars, making tea, planning and implementing outrageous lifestyle scenarios, getting tickled pink.

Cooking yummy comfort food from my indigenous and adopted cultures (Taiwanese, Slovakian), acupressure massage, making friends and loved ones feel well-come, well-fed, and well-in-general.
The first things people usually notice about me
How I simultaneously induce calm and excitement upon meeting.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The best meal I've ever had was freshly caught tuna sashimi in Kauai, Hawaii. Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Mexican, Ethiopian, I can be very picky or not.

music: Cat Power, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Neko Case, Lauryn Hill, Rilo Kiley, Rolling Stones, Nina Simone, Alicia Keys, Belle & Sebastian, Arcade Fire, Joy Division, Tribe Called Quest, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and lots more.

Cinema: Movie slut. Definitely a child of Hollywood, and like things across the spectrum of low and high brow. Wong Kar Wai, Lee Ang, the Coen Brothers, Pedro Almodovar, and Charlie Kaufman are up there. Plus taiwanese filmmakers, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Edward Yang, etc.

Books: E. Annie Proulx (Brokeback Mountain, the Shipping News), Don Delillo (White Noise, Cosmopolis), Raymond Carver, Thomas Pynchon (the Crying of Lot 49), Elizabeth Gilbert (the Last American Man, Eat, Pray, Love), Hai Jin (Waiting), David Sedaris (Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day), Zadie Smith (White Teeth), Jen Gish, Haruki Murakami (the Windup Bird Chronicle)
Six things I could never do without
1. Community (family & friends)

2. Love (all the joy, heartbreak, melodrama, and frustration of your larger communities, in easy take-home size!)

3. to kill/die for food and drink (the only reason i might support totalitarianism would be to enforce strict standards against incompetently made food)

4. Stories, written, sung, cinematic or otherwise

5. Moving my body (booty-shakin, yoga, running, hiking)

6. Travel
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to live a life that improves and brings happiness to my family, community, self, and wider world.

How to balance the need for service and (in a buddhist way) detachment from worldly needs and enjoying life free- and whole-heartedly.

Basically, I want to achieve transcendence, but in a highly profitable setting.

I also want to be less sarcastic ...
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a soft spot for cats and can't help but spoil all varieties of warm, adorable creatures. (maybe you can be one of them ...)

Also, I am $53 million in personal debt and will be running for president in 2020.
You should message me if
You sometimes take yourself way too seriously and realize that you really shouldn't.

You really care about something, hopefully a lot of things, like, say ... other people around you, society, great art, health, you know, all the popular things to care about.

You appreciate where you came from.

You're an unrepentant hedonist.

You like to dream, chase, and CATCH big dreams.
